“I’ve never imagined the leadership would be so bad at this.” I couldn’t agree more. The Dems are listless and uninspiring. Adam, do you hear your fellow citizens calling out for your leadership?
SCHUMER GOT TO GO!!!! We need somebody that's got the guts to fight these tyrants. We need to know which Democrat Senators are voting for this atrocious bill.
These Democrats Voted for the GOP Spending Bill:
Those Senators included Dick Durbin, Angus King, Brian Schatz, Catherine Cortez Masto, John Fetterman, Gary Peters, Maggie Hassan, Kirsten Gillibrand, Jeanne Shaheen and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Just messaged Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego not to vote for this Government Funding Bill !!! They didn't vote for it, Thank You Mark and Rubin!!!
I'm with you! . . . and I have been with you for these seven days! No Amazon purchases and no Whole Foods (even though WF is right next door!!) It feels good to participate.
I don't no the result of the last blackout but I need to know I'm trying everything I can to stop these tyrants from taking my freedom away. Protest, Boycott, Donate, Join, Messaging and Town Halls.
I guess I dont see shutting down the government as an honorable thing...especially right now, where it would advantage Elon and Trump
Also, I have never thought being aggressive wins over minds at all, at least not the ones who think the aggression we are being subjected to right now is very wrong
Endlessly proud of her. She was right as usual. Nancy knows what she is doing. If people around her do not listen, then it is on them and not on Nancy.
She still has power, and above all, BRAINS. Sadly, Schumer does not have enough common sense to listen. By the way, when she stopped the government shutdown and wall building, she was minority leader.
Trump and Musk are going to do whatever they plan, shutting down the government has zero downside for Dems and could get them some benefit for agreeing on a CR
She could be their teacher, but look what happened to her husband. That's the scary part. Do it to me, and I can handle it. But don't involve my family. But she could school some younger torchbearers behind the scenes!
No she did, but I watched clean house on 45 and the Republican Party and I think if we’re necessary she would have. My point was she knew how to fight and got the job done.
The reason people think Pelosi knew how to fight is because she would not call for a vote unless she knew it would pass. That, however, was an incredibly stupid strategy for anything other than self-aggrandizement. That strategy meant that a lot of issues (single-payer health care, for instance) important to liberals never got a vote in the House. As a result, Dems and liberal independents came to feel that the Democratic party wasn't fighting for them, and began to look toward third parties instead. Now even if Pelosi wasn't smart enough to figure out on her own that you need to show your supporters you're fighting for them, she should have been smart enough to realize it when the Republicans voted gazillion times to end Obamacare. Each losing vote they cast boosted their support. But she never saw it, the Democratic Party to this day doesn't get it, and that's why they keep losing elections they should be able to win.
You're wrong historically about Pelosi and health care. The bill she got passed in the house was a more comprehensive and stronger bill until it got to the Senate where some Democrats began watering it down and Obama wasted months seeking Republican support which, of course never appeared, and a much watered down final version of the ACA was passed.
I called my Dem. senators and emailed Schumer. I am appalled. We all swore to the Constitution yet here we are. I will never vote R/ but never send a cent tot the D Party.
I’m dancing as fast as I can. I sent an email to Chuck Schumer last night. I’m sure it was ignored. I’m frustrated. We did have a good Townhall meeting with the Republican Chuck Edwards. I believe he knows that he’s got a bunch of dissatisfied constituents. But I’m off track. Everyone needs to get in touch with Chuck Schumer before he votes to let him know that this is not a good deal for anyone.
I think that it should be a requirement for the party leaders from each party in both chambers to accept phone calls and emails on a national basis. After all, in their positions they have influence on a national basis, not just their district or state.
I am so disappointed in the Democrats! Schumer and Jeffries need to step down. We need leaders with a backbone who will represent the majority and stand strong against the republicans.
Kimberly...did try to clean up my verbiage.. lest my great grandchildren read Grandma's naughty words. Am much too old to be using that kind of language... however these are " naughty " desperate times we exist in.
An earlier comment here said that Nancy Pelosi could teach someone to be the effective leader for the Democrats. True, but what is also need is a willing and talented student that is 'centrist', not 'extremist', so that voting outcomes are acceptable to the largest possible swath of Americans.
Voting NO is the correct response for the Democrats. Yes, a shutdown has its dangers and downsides, but giving trump, and his trumplicans, a 6&1/2 month free reign to do whatever they want will be FAR worse!
So far, the Republicans have crafted this partizan CR without ever talking to the Democrats. Shutting down the Government will create so much 'heat' on the Republicans that they will either have to negotiate with the Democrats or watch the growing 'heat' burst into flames (i.e. spontaneous combustion)! Voting NO forces the Republicans to swiftly 'go through the pile of rags to find and remove the ones that are smoldering '!
It could, but when it happens, it's up to the American People to turn the 'heat' up as high as they can (call, email their elected Congressperson - Republicans in particular, participate in every protest and boycott, etc.) The more 'heat' the Republicans feel, the faster, and more likely they will move towards negotiating with the Democrats!
It's kinda like a military person fighting in a war. Yes, the individual soldier puts themselves at risk each and every day, but they do it anyway because they KNOW it is for the greater good!
A vote against cloture is not the end. That's when the Dems make their ask. It could be as simple as a clear CR, without the changes the House made. That would make the Dems look like the responsible party and the GOP look like the ones blowing it all up.
I wish someone like AOC would call Chuck on his cell phone and ask him what the hell is he doing?!?! This is insanity. Meanwhile, there are 10 little twits roaming in Social Security. WTF!!! This is unreal!
Well, we have Fetterman in PA- what happened to the old John Fetterman? To quote Jodie Foster in the movie, Nell: "Tay Ina Wynn" (tree in the wind). I never know which way that "tree" (Fetterman) is gonna bend anymore. In trying to be more centrist, he has become unpredictable and unreliable. He makes decisions for himself now, NOT the people who voted for him. I'm an Independent, but he is a DEM. He needs to remember that he is representing his constituents and not himself. I've emailed him 12x in the last month, and just today I received 1 response. The words are not even his, because they sound like someone else is speaking :(
He won't. The Ds get an F all around if they don't replace Schumer yesterday - they are nothing more than a weak arm of MAGA if they keep Schumer in leadership after this. This reflects on all of them. Not enough to make a symbolic "no" vote if they are not going to follow up and unseat the useless "leader" who pulled the rug out from under every Trump resistance fighter.
“I’ve never imagined the leadership would be so bad at this.” I couldn’t agree more. The Dems are listless and uninspiring. Adam, do you hear your fellow citizens calling out for your leadership?

What was the result of blackout #1? I don’t remember much press coverage. I’ll guess they were threatened to ignore it.
I don't no the result of the last blackout but I need to know I'm trying everything I can to stop these tyrants from taking my freedom away. Protest, Boycott, Donate, Join, Messaging and Town Halls.
Many of these are in swing districts, and I am sure they were picked to die on their sword....
I am not against fighting, but, this wasn't the hill to die on , it would have been bad politics
If your going to die on a hill anyway at least do it with honor!
I guess I dont see shutting down the government as an honorable thing...especially right now, where it would advantage Elon and Trump
Also, I have never thought being aggressive wins over minds at all, at least not the ones who think the aggression we are being subjected to right now is very wrong
Were on the same side so it's alright to disagree.
I agree, that was my point.
No, not all of them. Pelosi stopped Trump single-handedly from building a useless wall or throwing out ACA.
She wrote a nasty to Schuemer......not sure if she also called....
Endlessly proud of her. She was right as usual. Nancy knows what she is doing. If people around her do not listen, then it is on them and not on Nancy.
She had power then.
She still has power, and above all, BRAINS. Sadly, Schumer does not have enough common sense to listen. By the way, when she stopped the government shutdown and wall building, she was minority leader.
Schumer has been illuminated and who’s paying him off
He probably just is not the fighter and brilliant strategist like Pelosi. Or Congresswoman Waters.
AGREED!!!
THIS!
We need Chris Murphy to take over leadership in the Senate for the Dems.
I'm in California, so I vote for Adam Schiff. ;)
Adam Shiff would be great, also as President of the U.S.
Chris Murphy is one on the list of 'undecided'. He needs to not be just undecided.
Not according to the text i got
Shut it all down, seriously how worse can it get?
Trump and Musk are going to do whatever they plan, shutting down the government has zero downside for Dems and could get them some benefit for agreeing on a CR
I'm always for shutting it down if it's being used to blackmail and browbeat the other team into submission. Fuck it. Shut it down.
I agree. Shutting down will be horrible, but it may be just the "straw" to break the (orange) camel's back.
The shutdown will be on Trump and the Republicans. At this point, we don't have much to lose.
I have read it isn't really a "Clean" resolution and no one is talking about that
Pelosi knew how to fight that is why the Republicans hated her. She is too old now. Need some one like her that knows how to fight
She could be their teacher, but look what happened to her husband. That's the scary part. Do it to me, and I can handle it. But don't involve my family. But she could school some younger torchbearers behind the scenes!

did she ever shut down the government?
I called my Dem. senators and emailed Schumer. I am appalled. We all swore to the Constitution yet here we are. I will never vote R/ but never send a cent tot the D Party.
My senators were a no vote. I emailed Schumer too
Thank you Mr. Kinzinger.

I emailed Chuck since none of his phone numbers were taking messages last night. But I assume since I live in PA that they ignore me
I live in NC, and assume the same thing…. Just hoping the overwhelming number of vote no statements will have some influence
Oops, meant to reply to you? I was at the town hall too. Not sure i feel the same but he heard
I think that it should be a requirement for the party leaders from each party in both chambers to accept phone calls and emails on a national basis. After all, in their positions they have influence on a national basis, not just their district or state.
Chuck already voted for it, said last night it doesnt change anything- lier
I was there too, i dont think he cares, goi g to tow the line
I am so disappointed in the Democrats! Schumer and Jeffries need to step down. We need leaders with a backbone who will represent the majority and stand strong against the republicans.
Am appalled at the lack of Democrat leaders(??)lack of vision and their cowardly temerity! Not my usually preferred communicative language.
...but..." Demo-crats ...defecate or relinquish the commode!"
E'nuff, already! DO SOMETHING..BEFORE YOU ASK US FOR YET MORE MONEY!
defecate or relinquish the commode! I musk agree. Kidding. Must agree.
LOL! That was my great aunts favorite admonishment.
Kimberly...did try to clean up my verbiage.. lest my great grandchildren read Grandma's naughty words. Am much too old to be using that kind of language... however these are " naughty " desperate times we exist in.
Apologies if they offend!

Schumer says yes, because the shutdown would be worse. What do you think about this? I’ve been messaging like crazy to vote NO.
Voting NO is the correct response for the Democrats. Yes, a shutdown has its dangers and downsides, but giving trump, and his trumplicans, a 6&1/2 month free reign to do whatever they want will be FAR worse!

I have been calling every Dem for hours. Hope I haven't just been wasting my time.
Putting forth the effort to save democracy is never a waste of time! Please feel good about what you are doing!
Tell us what happens if it shuts down? Doesn’t that give Trump more untethered power/control?
It could, but when it happens, it's up to the American People to turn the 'heat' up as high as they can (call, email their elected Congressperson - Republicans in particular, participate in every protest and boycott, etc.) The more 'heat' the Republicans feel, the faster, and more likely they will move towards negotiating with the Democrats!

I love the ‘stache and think you should keep it!
My Dems were a no!💙💙. Emailed Schumer yesterday because no answer on the phone for hours. The Power of The Purse is important!!!
I emailed Schumer, as well. I live in a deep red state so no one else to contact.

Adam,
No truer words.
