OK, us GenXers might be made of tough stuff, but what the hell explains the Cruzes, Musks, and Hawleys? No fun during the 90s? Not enough hugs? Not enough bullying? Lead poisoning?

I mean, some of our cohort sucks out loud.

Here is an old but hilarious YouTube video from the pandemic days! https://youtu.be/AVetNcRKTF0?si=iv8v3PM5C2zTRWF3

And just FYI, my son born in 1979 was ALWAYS securely seat belted in my car. Maybe I am a helicopter mom. Nah, he definitely rode his bike all over the neighborhood.

My daughter was born in 1979, I was insistent on a seatbelt. However, she rode her bike and roller bladed around the neighborhood all without a helmet. On the other hand, horse back ridding, when I was around, she wore a helmet. I’m guilty of being somewhat of a 🚁.

My dad always made me wear my seatbelt also. But he was the only parent who did. My mom used to let me ride standing up in the front seat (I was short & couldn't see).

Too many of them watch state media, i.e. FoxNews, Newsmax, and OAN. They are bombarded over and over with how great MAGAs are and how bad everyone else is, and that's the trick—say something loudly and often enough, people start to believe it's true. Throw in the ingrained bigotry and misogyny that is part of too many of our generation (I'm almost 79), and they're easily convinced.

For example, I had a man who is a few years younger than me defend Trump's pardon of the January 6th crowd by saying that many of them were held in jail "without due process." Huh? Yes, I have no doubt that some of them were held in jail until their trial, but that is called NOT BEING ABLE TO MAKE BAIL! It is unfair to poor people, but IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY!!! It was not some denial of due process, they did get a trial or hearing, and they didn't get shipped off to a third world prison before they did. You can bet he heard that "denial of due process" argument on "state TV."

I also know several retired police officers who are loyal MAGAs. It boggles my mind that they actually support a man who incited a mob to attempt a coup (make no mistake—that's what it was, an attempted coup, not a riot) and, in the process, multiple police officers were injured. My neighbor works at a county jail, and most of her coworkers are also MAGAs. She's told them that she hopes they'll donate their brains to science when they die so we can figure out what is wrong with them!

Seriously I have never seen a luckier human being in my life. He is rarely held accountable for anything - ok he did get 30+ felonies in one trial and was convicted for SA in another but he made sure the election was rigged so he’d never have to face the truly serious trials for the insurrection and stealing classified documents AND NOW HE IS PRESIDENT because the Founding Fathers or Framers forgot to write “NO FELONS CAN EVER HOLD PUBLIC OFFICE PEOPLE!” He gets to sit at the Resolute Desk watching Musk destroy the federal government and Russ Vought go line by line making Project 2025 a reality and sits with the N@zi Stephen Miller praising ICE as they kidnap people right and left sending them to foreign gulags. And now he’s saying f*** you to the SCOTUS. And of course, Joe Biden gets cancer. I’m sorry I’m not a horrible person - I was born at the beginning of Generation X so I know how unfair life is but wow this POS goes on and on and on. Truly I have never seen a human being escape so much accountability in my life. 😩

Trump is so weak and pathetic...maybe he should go without eating today...and a few more days...like he and the Republicans want others to do here and around the world...then he could have something real to cry about...lying in bed feeling the pangs of hunger and wasting away. So stop wasting our time...and do your job. Really pathetic...him and the Republicans...

Proud GenXer here (barely - just made it in '77)! A childhood without cell phones, social media, and helicopter parents (at least in the case of mine and my friend's parents - I'm sure there were some out there) was a wonderful thing! By 1st grade, if not before, I was walking the block and a half to and from my best friend's house - yes, she is still my best friend and I'm the luckiest person in the world - on my own. When I got home from school and my parents were still at work, I knew how to get my own snack and do my homework (we still had that then, even in elementary school). Drank plenty of water from the hose in the backyard. And looking back, I'd say I was pretty darn self-sufficient for a kid. And I loved almost every minute! I mourn for all the kids growing up now, including my own, who will never know a life without social media and cell phones, will never know how to occupy themselves on a long car ride just looking out the window or listening to music, and will never know the peace of a life without constant noise and stimulation. But to someone else's point, yes, there are absolutely some GenXers who suck! There are bad apples in every bunch! The snowflake in chief and his minions at the top of the list!

My younger daughter was born in August 1977, and she is the most self-sufficient, independent woman. Her sister was born in May 1974. Although older, she doesn’t have the same grit as her sister (because of many factors). Adam and all, are correct in that it was a different yet in-between time with a foot in the pre-social media moving into the personal computer and social media era. I am grateful for the women they are now. And today, my 47, almost 48-year-old daughter is the reason her nephew is starting his post-college graduation job at a high-end interior design firm. Having your Aunt as the one who opens the door to opportunity is priceless.

AS a very young boomer -Trump is - to most of us older folk - and ALWAYS has been disgusting. He has CONSISTENTLY been the butt of jokes and an embarrassment and he has always been a racist, a sexual predator, hateful, cruel and just gross. (And as to this election, he cheated... but here we are.) Currently, he is mentally gone. He's ill and has all the markers of a man in obvious mental decline, but no one removes him from office. 25th amendment? I'm exhausted with him. Completely over it. Further, I am sick of him and his followers, enablers and sycophants. Narcissists are ALWAYS victims. Nothing new here.

Right now we feel stuck -and there are good bits of progress happening: people being released from custody, the regime losing court cases, more & more folks pulling their heads put of the sand & taking a look around. … hey I didn’t vote for this !! Please don’t forget about we elders who have much, maybe everything to lose as medical care & social security are on the chopping block….I’d much rather see certain heads on that block.
