Thank you for standing up for truth. In a time of universal deceit , truth telling becomes an act of valor.

"In a time of universal deceit"....what perfect phrasing. The bald-faced lying is just disgusting.

What I can't continue to wrap my head around....is 49.9% of this country likes this behavior, loves the rhetoric. How can people be blindly ignorant? Logic just doesn't seem to work.

I've been trying to figure this out for about 9 years and have gotten no closer. But I'll tell you, I am now even more cynical about human nature, about my fellow citizens, and about this country. I'm not cynical about HIM...he is who he is (and, as someone who's in the mental health field, he's easily identifiable in Cluster B Personality Disorders, the two most dangerous ones...heck, anyone with a DSM-5 could see how he qualifies; his symptoms are that obvious). No, I'm cynical about all of my fellow citizens who knew better and just didn't care? Or too ignorant to know; like they're that stupid? Either way, it's depressing. I'm not a cynical person by nature, but listening to Fanone in the recent interview with Kinzinger, I'm like, yeah...that's exactly where I'm at.

Thank you for sharing the clinical name for this.

Note that I did not specify which two he would qualify for within Cluster B, as he is not my client, and there is also the expectation that medical providers will not weigh in on presidents' mental health (ie the Goldwater Rule--I believe this only applies to psychiatrists, however). That being said, Trump's pathologies are completely obvious to anyone in the mental health field, and the criteria can be easily understood by the average person reading through this section of the DSM-5. The two he displays traits/symptoms for (these two personality disorders often go together) exemplify his life history as well, especially in flouting rules, cheating, deceit, and physical cruelty to others. It's no surprise that he is a felon, to put it mildly. If he came to me for therapy, I would be referring him to a provider who specializes in personality disorders, which is a bit more of a niche area of focus in the mental health field. That's what any solid therapist would be doing.

What a sad day when Americans have to be pardoned for following the law. Thank you for having the courage to stand up on the side of right, Adam. And BTW, Scott Jennings is nothing but a bottom feeder. Shame on CNN for keeping him around.

Expand full comment

I agree about Scott Jennings! I don't dislike conservatives just because I disagree with this opinions. But that dude is an ass!

Expand full comment

He’s CNN’s lame MAGA ambassador……he shames himself and his state of KY every time he opens his mouth!!! He’s crapped all over Biden and thinks we’re all brain dead like him!! He forgets there are CNN viewers like me who remember when tornados 🌪️ destroyed his childhood family home in Mayfield, KY early in Biden’s Admin!! Biden and both Gov Andy Beshear and his father former Gov Steve Beshear met with Biden in western KY when Biden immediately made FEMA funds available “no conditions attached” as Scott and MAGA scum are demanding of CA!!! Hypocrisy doesn’t begin to describe his conduct!! 🤬 and Biden knew he would never win KY — as in not his voters and yet did his job as President and met with Jennings to when there!!

I think that’s WHY they keep him around, to provoke rage clicks.

Anything for a rating, right, MzNicky? Opposite effect on my marketing background. I turned CNN off because of Jennings and haven’t looked back.

Lynette, I gave CNN the heave-ho in 2023, when they hosted Tr*mp’s “town hall.” Yes, anything for attention, just like the swine who will now run our country. It is to vomit.

I hung around for the likes of Adam and a few others. I used to be a conservative until recently and felt CNN gave a bit of balance. I think I left shortly after the Harris nomination. I felt David Urban attitude was a little too testy for me, but man, Jennings’ middle school eye rolling and sane washing is more than I can choose to bring in my life. Left all corporate media in the rear view. Best decision ever.

I watch CNN but change the channel every time Jennings is on, and he seems to be on day and night!

I do the same thing!!!

It seems like Abby Phillips & the others detest him.

I was very disappointed in Meet the Press this week as well. There is rarely any pushback or rebuttal. NBC this morning/ afternoon was a bit chilling. There was a little mention of the craziness that this is actually happening & the troubling aspects of his speeches. It felt glossed over & "sane-washed" which is the new term.

Kristen Welker is getting less & less assertive. She used to be a bull dog. Trump literally texted her on air today after Biden's J6 committee pardons.

I'm turning more and more to only MSNBC for my TV news alongside the plethora of substacks which I'm so grateful for. We might be on our own, but we have a movement here. I feel it.

Lynette, what news source are you following now?

Expand full comment

Lisa, I have subscribed to several Substack communities. The Contrarian has several reporters of note, and I say honor. I discovered when Jen Rubin announced she left WaPo and joined the Contrarian. Andy Borowitz has had regular contributions as well, and I love his satire. Scott Dworkin (I have yet to pay subscribe) but as a free subscriber, have used his links to contact senators and congressmen. Oh, “God” is amusing as well. I enjoy the humor and what so far appears to be honest reporting. I have a couple other communities piquing my interest and will be watching how they unfold before supporting. Hope that helps!

CNN has changed. I remember hearing Abby saying Trump was gracious to Carter. So untrue. It's almost like CNN has shifted to the right. And less accurate news but more bites to get clicks.

Expand full comment

Lois, I grew up in the Walter Cronkite generation. By Viet Nam times, yes the news was slanted, but still (I believe) based on reporting facts. (My cousins were attending Kent State on May 4th; one was a photo journalist. I know truth was the primary mission at that point of time.

Watergate: My boss offered a remote place for one of the primary actors to avoid the press. Yet truth still prevailed and this person’s story came out when he resurfaced.

If there was only good money lobbying for a straightforward news service, we wouldn’t have advertisers buying time on news entertainment programs that have to fill 24 hours each day. Anyone with a keyboard, anyone with a social media account, anyone with an opinion can find followers and a niche as a ‘journalist.’

Jennings and Urban are not the only offensive commentators on CNN. Both right and left sides cross lines and (in my opinion) should be reined in. But with sound bites and Sesame Street attention spans, time does not allow for fact checking or truthful conversations.

Don’t get me started on Bezos or Zuckerberg. Or the fact that Musk Seig Heiled ‘his King’ and I’ve only seen two Substacks so far. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Hopefully corporate media has noticed but who knows if they’ll be permitted to comment.

Rant over. Bring back the Conkrites and the Bernstein & Woodwards. I remain skeptical still and very slow to trust where I should get my information.

I'vestarted turning CNN off every time Jennings is part of a panel discussion. Since he seems to be on all the time, I've effectively stopped watching CNN.

What happened to Jennings?!He used to seem much more fair minded. Seems like he became so combative only in the last year or so. Is he scared of Trump getting mad at him or is he vying for a job from Trump now?

I like and respect many in the GOP; Jennings is not one of them!

I think that they keep people like Jennings, Urban and others of that ilk around in order to appear "centered" in their discussions. Having said that, I've noticed (maybe it's just me) that those people don't often get a chance to say much (probably because what they say is so infuriating). When they start "spewing the maga line" I get so angry that I will mute the audio until they are done worshipping their orange god. Then I will unmute to listen to reasonable commentary. I'd love to see more news coverage and less commentary anyway.

Hey Richard, I believe you are spot on! That being said, not everybody’s opinion is valid. I have no self control when it comes to the mute button. My brain goes, “oooh great, what is this doofus going to say now?” And my ‘shave-and-haircut’ ‘toon character helplessly rises the ‘two-bits’ bait!

I watched CNN to help me understand what was going on during COVID. I flip the channels now or turn on a movie. Glad Adam is still on CNN to keep the sanity, with his consistent message and non-mincing of words. I am disappointed to see Jennings move more and more to MAGA defense; I used to think he was more balanced. David Axelrod called him out yesterday after Jennings tried to sanitize January 6 and reminded him of what he said about January 6, 2021. I become angry hearing history re-written by some of these republicans (I am registered Independent since age 18) and glad to see a few news stations keep showing clips of that awful day to remind us of what transpired. I grieve to see the sadness and anger of those police officers, what they experienced and how their lives changed that day, never to be same again. Watching Officer Fanone last night was heartbreaking- he said that the officers were betrayed for whoever voted for T-rump, for whatever reasons. I heartily concur; my heart and prayers go out for all of the officers embroiled in that battle. I wouldn't blame them if next time (and it WILL happen at some point) they just step aside and go home.

TM ,

We must stay sane in the face of all that is happening in order to carry on our democratic heritage. I have a profound sense of sadness today as I think about the words of Plato -

“ government is a reflection of the soul of the people “ . Today is a stain on our souls- but it should not be ( at least for the opposition) .

Nevertheless, the sadness continues. In 1984

by George Orwell, it is said if the central character:

“ He felt as though he were wandering in the forests of the sea bottom , lost in a monstrous world where he himself was the monster . He was alone . The past was dead , the future was unimaginable.”

I’ll need some time to recover.

I agree, I am yearning for the cohesive how's - not just to go to local meetings and call our (disappointing for the most part) congressmen - what is our clear, down to earth messaging to be? - folks want tangible change for the better - they thought they were getting that with Trump just because he was different (in a horrible orange sort of way) - we need new leaders who can show we are listening, that they get it, and bring a new message that creates tangible vision for a better future - i.e. what are we getting behind, so that we can take it to the grass roots?

Well here we are Day 3 of our new dictatorship. If anyone out there thinks that the minute the Republican/Fascist To The Core party tries to ignore, change or remove the Constitution and there will be no response will absolutely be wrong. There is 165 million people over the age of 18 that did not vote for Trump. We have to remember that! He has done nothing yet and the protest have already started and I expect the size of the protest to get larger and larger as the "Unlawful Acts" progress into the future. We also need to start boycotting these companies that are supporting this Dictator and also kissing the ring. Tesla, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Instagram, Google, Apple, Charles Schwab, Etc. Etc. You want to know who? https://www.goodsuniteus.com/ and https://www.opensecrets.org/ We need to start making some sacrifices to make our country a Democracy again.
