Thank you for putting this in perspective and reminding us not to put the brakes on rational civil political discourse about the threat Trump poses to us all. As you said, we take him out by voting, not by terrorist tactics.
I agree with you Adam. As a Canadian I follow you and subscribe for your common sense. But the reality is 9 years of calls to violence by trump, his screeching about Paul Pelosi, his falling to his knees for Putin, his support for violence at January 6. He is complicit. He is not a victim, he is caught up in his own violent rhetoric, he lit this fire, no one else. Maybe the GQP needs to look inward, but you, better than one knows they will not. Keep up the great work.

I sent him an immediate email telling him to dial it back, and dialing it back was the right thing to do as this was a lone disturbed young man. I told him to raise his voice in prayer for the deceased and critically injured.
Tell him (Steube) that you want him to start a GoFundMe for Corey Comperatore who lost his life in Butler. I could care less that he was at a Trump Rally - I'm in.
100% correct. We cannot let sympathy (which a person who’s being shot at by an assassin‘s weapon deserves to get), prevent us from pressing criminal investigations and trying to adjudicate Donald Trump in the courts; nor can we pretend that he doesn’t represent further threats to our democratic processes and institutions. He’s already convinced the GOP to further attack voting process, and has apparently large numbers of lawyers ready to paralyze the system if he loses. Stand firm with the Constitution.
This senseless act of violence did not change a thing. Adam is absolutely correct. We still have to do everything morally possible to prevent Donald Trump from being elected. Conspiracy theories will expand, lies will be spoken and these must be set aside so we are not distracted or diverted.
It is so sad that political and campaign interaction has been so degraded. We are still entitled to reflect on where and when this level of cruelty began. That should motivate us to stay focused.

Year to date there have been more than 300 mass shootings. That's more than 11 per week. More than one mass shooting per day. Since Jan 1, 300+ people have been shot to death. 1,200+ have been shot and wounded. In only 6 months! When Donald was asked recently about how to stop mass shootings, he said, "Get used to it." Now he has the experience of a victim of a mass shooting.
The politicos and media experts are calling this an assassination attempt. But it looks more like a troubled kid who decided to shoot up a political rally instead of a school. Time will tell.

My band on a flatbed was almost gunned down at the July 4th parade in Highland Park, IL by what appears to be a similar disturbed, death-obsessed young male loner. Let's try to get this into the conversation and prevent future tragedies.
I do not like Trump, not one bit. He NEEDS to be defeated in November. But yesterday was uncalled for. You NEVER, EVER try taking someone out that way. There's a ballot box for a reason. I was happy to see that Democrats (Pelosi, Sanders, etc) and sane Republicans (Kasich, Cheney, Bush, Boehner, etc), called this out yesterday. Of all times, we only seem to have bipartisanship when something like this happens. But you're 100% correct. We can't lose track of our goal: defeating Trump in November.
I will not be intimidated by those (including local elected officials where I live) who want to make this an assault on Joe Biden or the Democratic Party. What hypocrisy! How disgusting! Makes me even more determined to keep Trump out of office (with my vote) to hopefully put this nightmare reign of Trumpism behind us once and for all. God help all Americans to perceive the danger of this type of leader now and in the years to come.
I thought long and about whether to post anything about the assassination attempt on former President Trump. Here’s the way I see it: He can go one of two ways now. He can go against character and call for unity and healing. Alternatively, he can call for retribution and make more statements about how Democrats are the enemy, etc. We will know more tomorrow, once the Republican National Convention begins. If he goes down the “retribution route”, we will see violence that will make January 6th look like a garden party. The truly awful thing is that even if he doesn’t, his supporters may go down that road anyway. Let’s hope that this is not the way things go. And, for the record, no matter what, yesterday’s violence should be condemned by everyone, no matter what your political orientation is.

That &saving the democracy is all we shd be talking about.
