Thanks for having the guts to turn over this rock. With class. What a small man McCarthy is. And how sadly diminished our Congress has become, with members such as McCarthy, Gaetz, MTG, Bobert, Gosar...

….and this Mullins guy? Picks a fight in a Senate hearing room with a Teamster from Southie (anybody from Southie, actually, would have been a bad idea) and has to be shushed by a ninety-year-old who wears huge mittens outdoors.

Adam: How long has this stuff been going on? And I don’t mean going back to the cane attack on Senator Sumner in the first century B.C.

I'm a Democrat, and one of most liberal ones I know - in fact, the Democratic Party is too conservative, or too political, for me. But I so wish that you were still in Congress Mr. Kinzinger. I'm old enough that I remember when Congress was full - well, maybe not full - of Republicans like you and I miss it. Our country is so much poorer for the bipartisan dysfunction that is so rampant these days. You are one of my heroes for all of the things that you say in this post.

It’s difficult for many people to come to the truth of who they are and how they want to move through and relate to the world around them. It takes effort to be introspective and courage to be honest with themselves. The passive aggressive actions of McCarthy show how small minded and petty he is.

This accounting brings me back to a time when I used to hang out with a girl who, if she did not get her way, would solicit her friends to “bump” into her “enemies.” She got a lot of joy from it. The group I hung with were all in the mid-20’s. Then I broke with the group and crossed “her line” and got the bump. That was almost 40 years ago. Of course it was so very immature, but I blamed it on youth, even if we were in our 20’s. But now I see the behavior of people in their 40’s to 70’s in roles of leadership displaying this abhorrent behavior. Frankly, it scares the crap out of me.

My parents were what I would call conservative to moderate democrats. They were good and honest people. Most of my adult life, I’ve voted democrat but also independent and republican at times. I have always despised labels. I want people with good hearts running this country. I don’t mind if people disagree about how to run this country as long as each side hears the other out. But what are we to do when all we have “serving” in leadership roles are people who care only about themselves, money and power? No truer words were ever spoken: money is the root of all evil.

I have donated to your cause, Adam. I have subscribed to this substack because I long to hear that there are still conservatives who will speak up against this terrible sickness that has crept into the souls of fools who support the likes of Donald Trump. Please continue to speak out. Adam. We just can’t let DJT into the WH again. It just breaks my heart that our Nation has come to this moment and what will happen if we fail to keep him out.

DJT has been telling us what will happen to our nation if he is president again. The fascist strongman rule will be the order of the day. And the many, many days and years after that. We, as a country, are on the cusp of putting in office someone who can’t string together three coherent sentences and has the vocabulary range of a nine year old. He couldn’t communicate if the word “very” or “perfect” didn’t exist. Then not to mention he is, in Adam’s words and I’m quoting from his excellent book trump is “f***ing nuts” (well turned phrase Adam). Wowser...how do we get ourselves out of this one? Because it will take us, ourselves to solve this dilemma. Nobody on a white horse is going to come swooping in to save the day. We have to figure this out.

Like I’ve said before on Substack threads, I’m a Republican conservative but voted Democrat in last election for the very first time. I will not vote Republican again until they ALL have “a come to Jesus moment”, regain their sanity and start doing their real jobs, you know, the jobs WE sent them to do. I am sure I’m not alone in that conviction.

Thank you Joan - Your way is the only way for the GOP to get back to a reasonable collection of responsible, credible, alternative ideas (SOLUTIONS) that the party of Lincoln used to be but is now utterly unrecognizable.

What’s so disheartening is that they(mainly current Republicans and some Democrats) don’t get how utterly dissatisfied we are with their disgusting antics and the continual backing of a lunatic for our leader. They surely know trump is unfit and they can sense most Americans are sick of this. But they don’t care about any of it. They just don’t care.

I looked this up. Here's the audio from NPR as this occurred. https://www.npr.org/2023/11/14/1212912482/mccarthy-burchett-elbow-house-republicans

How pathetic is that type of action by Kevin McCarthy. Doesn't matter who you are, surely your parents taught you better than that as a child Kevin. Unfortunately, the behavior you describe with making your job the major part of your existence is quite common. As a psychiatric nurse, I've seen this many times both with patients and co-workers as well as friends and community members. I worked on VA locked psych units and would say that along with trauma and brain injuries, loss of military jobs were extremely hard on the men in particular. Women had more issues with sexual assault and harassment. Kevin would have been one of the sneak attackers if he had been in the military. Thank you for the update Adam.

Thanks for the link. Just watched it and it corroborates exactly what Adam referred to in his video. We are the laughing stock of the world. No wonder many (not all) countries don’t like America. I have 5 grandchildren and I’m sometimes agonize over what their future will be like. That’s why we need to hold trump and his cronies accountable but also those legislators who are still in office. Is this their best for us? Do they think so little of us average Americans that they think they can afford to snub their noses at us and play the playground bullies? No, we deserve better.

You nailed it. Kevin McCarthy really is a sore loser and a complete ineffectual at his job. He bragged about beating up on Hillary Clinton in the Benghazi hearings campaign. And then it became his turn when the government appropriations bills needed to.be passed, and he had no personal friends or political allies he could rely on. Instead he got dumped because he allowed a poison pill to be included in the agreement he made with Matt Goetz and the other radicals. Kevin should have seen this coming from the very beginning of his tenure as Speaker. Maybe he did see it, but he was desperate to get the Speakership and he hoped it wouldn't happen to him. He was dealt a losing hand, and he was angry that he lost, which was inevitable.

Never have been a McCarthy fan. However, when he went to Mar a Lago after J6 to kiss the ring, it was at that point I could no longer stomach him. Then he sold his soul to become speaker, for what? Worked out well, My Kevin. I was an independent, most times voting for a democrat but sometimes for a republican. My vote was cast for what I felt was important to me at the time and who I thought was the better candidate. My parents were staunch republicans and always voted for whoever was running, up and down the ballot. My mom passed away before Trump was elected but living outside of NYC (Jersey ‘burbs) we heard a lot about Trump. Let’s just say none of us were a fan. My dad did vote for Trump in 2016 as he was the GOP candidate. My dad passed away 1/1/23 but I had heard over the last number of years, what the heck is going down in Washington? He would get so wound up about the dumpster fire that it has become. My parents taught me about good morals, ethics, being a good person, helping others, do not lie, cheat or steal. My dad was so upset with what was happening and concerned for the future, concerned for his grandsons future. We are now expecting a grandson and think the same thing. What is happening? What is the future going to be? The disfunction keeps getting worse and worse. We are truly heading off that cliff with what the GOP has become.

The future is going to be what the too silent voting majority votes it’s going to be. So let’s get out there and work to turn out more voters, stand up for the truth and never ever stay silent before lying, grifting, racist, ethnic, misogynist and intimidating remarks. Do not fear evil. Fear doing nothing to stop it!

On a bigger note, we need to get rid of the Electoral College! It seems to me that Donald figured it was a given that he would win the election again because of the Electoral College! Hasn't this happened to the Democrats for decades? Makes you wonder!
