Trump can't stop inflaming the nation because he is desperate to stay out of prison. If he can inflame the nation enough, people will stay home out of fear and they won't vote. The Trumplicans' call for ending violent rhetoric is to disguise the fact that they are solely responsible and are doing it as we speak. So many of the American people are against them that they are trying everything they can to upset and overturn the Election, if they fail in stopping it altogether. How many of the former Republicans have called for prosecution or elimination of the Democrats?

I am sorry but the true Republicans need to eliminate all of the MAGA garbage and start over with a Party that truly wants to move America forward.

I agree 100% about stopping violent rhetoric.

However, I do think they are only wanting their cult to “hear” them say that this violent rhetoric needs to stop and make it seem as though Dems are the cause. Otherwise, I don’t think they care at all about stopping it. It’s another tactic.

I also think while trying to blame the other side, DT is using the attempts on his life as far as it will take him (and possibly enjoying having that opportunity).

As they say this needs to stop, the leaders of Springfield were on CNN again today speaking about how finally kids can go back to school- however with armed reinforcements. They are getting bomb threats as a city well as the leaders are personally being threatened. Instead of denouncing the JDV admitted “lies” for all to hear, they continue with it. Didn’t DT post about “hating” a certain popular singer just a day or two ago?

I’m not speaking or acting in hate and never do, so while I fully agree it needs to stop, I do feel their claims need to be taken with a grain of salt in order for upstanding people to remain safe from their words & actions.

I have a daughter who is in her 13th year teaching and I also know personally what

It is like when bomb threats are called in at schools. At the very least it disrupts children’s learning-at worst it scares every teacher, staff, child, parents of students and families of teachers and staff.

Please don’t forget how many teachers and students go to school scared- having to do drills for gun violence let alone bomb threats.

It is NOT okay to disrupt an entire community with lies and not be held accountable with their words and at the same time call out that the “other side” needs to stop violent rhetoric-

Will anyone hold them accountable for anything ever??

Agreed. i would further state the importance of having two, functioning parties that are committed to keeping our democratic republic; one that is based on the constitution. Anyone, who thinks destroying the other party would settle how our government will be governed has little-to-no knowledge of the relationship between human nature and power (Jung said it best "stability is the tension of opposites").

Darrell, as you truly stated, the skills of the Master Manipulator have driven the moderate and conservative Republicans out of the party because he was able to quickly intimidate them, so the remainder are so weak they had to bow to him. What’s left is the Trumplican Party and they have effectively gutted any functioning House, who can’t even pass a budget, their prime responsibility. If the Orange isn’t stopped in Nov, there will be no stopping him, so we must!

Hey Darrell, man I couldn’t agree more. Everything you pointed out is dead on correct. It is solely the scared idiots fault with corrupt power hungry, attention seeking, money hungry republicans that are responsible for these whack jobs trying to pop his uneducated head. I’m actually surprised by the restraint of most “normal” minded Americans. Cheers 🥂

And then Vance makes a statement like "no one's tried to assassinate Kamala"... so it goes to show that it must be the liberals' fault all this is happening. Idiotic.

Yes Adam! Thank you! All violent rhetoric must stop but when JD Vance said it, he was trying to say that liberals were inciting this violence yet both times, the perps were not liberal! And in my opinion, by lying and saying they were, Vance is trying to incite violence against Kamala just as Elon inappropriately posted the other day that it was interesting that no one has tried to harm Harris or Walz. They know what they are doing when they do this!

Today, I reached my saturation point of hearing all this violent rhetoric. It’s too much, and this ongoing rhetoric has major consequences. People are being physically as well as emotionally harmed. Communities are being harmed and labeled as “others”. In a quick flash, I am the “other”. I will not accept this for myself or for anyone. We all have inherent worth.

We/I want and need quiet, I need peace, and a place to think without the fear of harm. This violent rhetoric must stop.

I’ve concluded that the absence of both Fox News and CNN could eliminate some of the most divisive rhetoric outside of the MAGA cult. When reporting political issues, notwithstanding their rhetoric, the body language, facial expressions and tone of reporters exude contempt for the ‘other side’.

Our elected officials are more to blame for their divisive speech from their bully pulpits. It as if they think every Democrat, left-leaning or progressive must hate and denigrate our Republican, right-leaning or conservative neighbors. That is not the way communities work. We have real, consequential jobs and don’t have time for hate- and fear-mongering. We don’t always discuss politics, constantly wring our hands over the state of the world, nor always have political signs in our yards, despite their desire for us to do so. We live, work and play together without the kind of rancor our elected officials use and want to create in order for them to keep their jobs and change the world to their own narrow views.

Adam, I agree the best way to end violent rhetoric is to stop doing it! On the other hand, actions speak louder than words, so when the Trump campaign actually starts doing it and continues to do it then I may begin to have a little faith in their words. Trump and Vance making up stories of immigrants eating cats and dogs sounds like loony tunes or just idiotic yet look at the violence that has engulfed the entire town of Springfield, Ohio a state the Vance supposedly represents. These two can say crazy, off-the-wall stuff because they know there are violent groups of people sitting on GO to rain down terror on an innocent public. Our First Amendment has been weaponized against us and there seems to be darn few republicans ready or willing to call these two men out. Yet somehow trump’s violent rhetoric is Democrats’ fault or Taylor Swift’s fault? Trump’s whole purpose now is to sow as much chaos as humanly possible until January. Count on it.

Violence is abhorrent to our political ethos. Violent rhetoric is a bad thing. Legitimate criticism is another. Republicans have said that calling Trump “a threat to democracy“ is part of the problem here. Comparing his words and actions to those of “Hitler” is part of the problem here. They’re incorrect. Those are simply accurate descriptions of the situation as it is and must be stated loudly, clearly and often. When he stops promising to dismantle our Democracy and when he stops with the Nazi vitriol, those criticisms will stop. It’s like Putin criticizing the Ukrainian army for resisting his soldiers. Defending our values may be inconvenient for him but it is incumbent upon us to do it. Sorry Donald. We will not stop talking until the threat of what, and who you are, has moved on. Hopefully that occurs with a lost election…..that you concede. Is that possible Don?

Expand full comment

Agree. There's a world of difference between calling him out for being a dictator in waiting and for replicating the fascist/Hitler playbook and how he explicitly incites physical violence in his cult. Dems have openly stated that violence is unacceptable while he is absolutely using it as another means to get his way. J6, anyone?

This is dangerously asymmetric messaging. Dems must never say anything negative about Trump/Vance. That's VIOLENCE. Trump/Vance can spew anything they like against anyone they choose -- I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT! (Trump, 9-15-24), Haitian "illegal" immigrants (in Springfield, OH) are eating the dogs; they're eating the cats! (Trump, 9-10-24). That's First Amendment protected FREE CAMPAIGN SPEECH. The Republican ticket does not believe, and never has, that the rules of law or civility apply to them (see ANC Section 60 desecration, for example). Democrats are expected to self-muzzle to give Trump/Vance a free pass. Sorry, dudes. Not going to happen. The facts and the truth will set us free from you both on Nov. 5!
