Wow that's a great idea Adam! Can a Congress person hold a town hall in another district outside their own?

Bernie Sanders is doing a nation-wide tour currently - he's targeting "purple" districts for now. So yes, a Congress person can hold a town hall anywhere.

Let’s be clear. The Dems need a message. They are feeble and a key part of the reason that the country is where it is… the Dems enabled it to happen due to 6+ decades of not truly leading, if passing meaningful legislation but not truly leading. And the Dems remain like cats… no organization, no concise message, no plan, no consistency, and too far left in a manner that leaves the middle without a home. People are increasingly angry with the GOP but they are also skeptical and/or overly angry at the Dems. And they have reason to be angry at the Dems who failed the country.

I think your review of Dems. accomplishments/leadership, or as you write, lack of accomplishments and leadership is seriously inaccurate. Also, I’ve been around long enough to know when either party loses a national election, it takes a bit of time for that party to get their footing. I very much hope that changes soon.

Still, I wonder if, 4 weeks ago, had the Dems. had a stronger stance against Trump and the horror of what he’s setting in motion, the Republican party could have more easily replaced the news cycle with the narrative that Trump is a victim of knee jerk attacks from the Dems.; a narrative the right wing media would have easily picked up and pounded away. I understand its arguable, but it may be worth considering a more successful strategy might be waiting a bit more, as more voters become more aware of how much they have been lied to and manipulated; become more aware of the need they have for democratic control of govt.

I say this fully aware of the disorganization the Democratic party has been in since the Nov. ‘2024 election. I also say this believing, as you do that the party needs stronger leaders than Schumer and Jefferies (My thinking is Dan Goldman or Jamie Raskin would be a good replacement for Jefferies and Christopher Murphy would be a good replacement for Schumer.).

Whether you and I agree on how productive the Dems. have been in the past, at this point, is a much smaller issue than how we move forward. Let’s focus on the bigger issue in how to move forward to save our Constitutional Republic.

Charles - You illuminate an uncomfortable truth: MAGA is GREAT at pounding talking points. Ds? Terrible! For instance, I've been hearing a MAGA talking point for two weeks now that the Ds will be responsible for the coming government shutdown on 3/14. Ds? All over the map with Jeffries and Schumer sending mixed messages: https://www.forbes.com/sites/saradorn/2025/02/25/heres-why-a-government-shutdown-appears-increasingly-likely-were-running-out-of-time/

Why do you say that. For example… Reagan right the country in the ‘80s that it was okey to herd your government. The Dems did nothing to change that message. Gingrich was clear in the ‘90s that the GOP would stop at nothing to get what they want and the Dems did nothing to stop that. As an executive and entrepreneur, over regulation is a major problem and the Dems did nothing but love ever more regulation (and I’m a conservationist). We clearly needed a focus on government efficiency and effectiveness but the Dems were too focused on pronouns to address that. The examples go on and on… and whoever you are DW, I’m likely on your side and probably relatively likeminded. But answers and progress tends to come from the middle, not from extremes. Leadership consistency, concerns about the right things and consistent effective messaging are profoundly missing from the Dems.

I don't see any middle from the Republicans in office. They accepted the attempted overthrow of our government and brought trump back to life.

The tyrants have to see that "We The People" are a larger force then they thought their was. Massive protest will be needed and that's when the doubt will start creeping in to these cowards. Some military will need to stand down. Let's not forget military families also have non-Trump supporters at home. I see a flashpoint coming "tin soldiers and Trump coming". We need to brace ourselves for the inevitable. Vietnam Vet

I just quoted that song today. Nixon did it and trump will do it too if the situation presents itself.

Actually, any citizen can assemble a town hall, with or without professional politicians. Call it a town meeting. Call it a forum. This is how the patriots assembled, in small towns, to reject the monarchy. It works!

In Vermont last evening, 34,000! Vermonters participated in a livestream town hall with Bernie, Senator Peter Welch, and Representative Becca Balint.

Balint: "I’m so honored to represent our state and I’m so proud of you all for staying so engaged. We must keep moving forward. It’s going to take all of us."

This is how it's done!

(And, btw, no one was paid to attend.)

Any politician can go into a district and hold a Town Hall. They just cannot obviously run for office in that district.

Expand full comment

Actually, sometimes they can. Congressional members in NC don't have to be from the district that they are running for. It's certainly preferable.

Interesting, but how stupid is that? Do you even have to live in NC?

Great idea! “I want to see Democrats holding town halls in Republican districts, giving those voters a place to be heard.”

Heard is all they will be, since democrats have no power in congress.

I'd absolutely love to see this. I would completely support my elected peeps to do this. Ultimately, we all want to be heard and shown we matter. We all want a seat at the table. If their representatives aren't willing to give them that voice, then we should. That's how movement's are created and eletctions are won. Thank you Adam for your continued service to us. I appreciate you and your family.

Adam, are you still registered as a Republican? I had an idea today - Dick Durbin retires and Gov. Pritzker appoints you to fill out the remainder of Durbin's current term. But that would work better if you were a registered Independent (I assume Democrat is out of the question)... Thoughts?

I attended my congressman's town hall just to show support and agreement for him for standing up for us constituents, and also to hear what others had to say. We all attended without being paid. Who knew that threatening to get rid of people's Social Security, Medicare, and other programs would make people angry?

Thank you for your post today Adam and I agree with you-we need Town Hall meetings!!!People need to be to voice their concerns to the person representing them!!! If they won’t do it then get someone who will!!!

Yup! Nancy Mace informed her constituents that she will be hiding behind a computer screen and everyone has to be behind their computer screens as well. She doesn’t mind picking a fight on the floor of Congress, so what is she afraid of?

So well said Adam! I really do think we are a nation of brainwashed people that think "their party" has all the answers!

Working together and hearing Americans, common complaints, that are typically very similar, no matter what side of the aisle. I am sad, because we were turning a corner if Kamala was in office. It would have been a White House that represented both side sides of the aisle. Hopefully, you are working on coalitions to make that happen in 2028. I am always here to support in anyway.

Great advice! I know this is making a difference! Especially hearing from someone who has been on the receiving end of a townhall!

I just got off the regular Thursday Country First zoom calling our DC representatives! It is SO empowering!! I didn't want to do it but forced myself!! I'm so grateful for Dave, the moderator and those who joined in making 4000+ calls!!

In an hour, I I'll be going to be on our wireless call😊 to the Man Upstairs🙏🏻 at 3pmEST to voice our concerns for democracy, Adam, his family and again being the bright beacon to the world! I was afraid to mention this years ago and was pleased so many said they would say a quick prayer wherever they are!

Thanks, Adam and God bless 🙏🏻
