Adam, I’m assuming that many in the GOP behind closed doors don’t want Trump as president or at least realize the disaster he is to our American democracy. But I’m just so amazed at the cowardice in the GOP that they would still rather hold onto Republican power, even though it means the end of our country. I just can’t wrap my head around it no matter how hard I try.
I have stated my opinion as to exactly that on several posts here. But I see numerous posts here by partisan Democrats who -- as an alternative to Trump -- are willing to excuse the numerous past and likely future policies of a Biden-Harris Administration. Biden's age is objectively a reason why his chances of living through a term from 2025 to 2029 -- with full mental competency are well below 50-50. Without going into all of the policy details, add to that the even stronger leftist bias of his probable premature successor, Kamala Harris.
I don't think that Biden's (typically Democratic) grift to enrich his family, and Harris's coziness with the extreme Marxist, anti-white racist elements of the Democratic Party, are not quite the same "threats to Democracy" as Trump. But both of our two dominant political parties -- with tens of millions of "faithful" -- ought to be able to nominate candidates who are less partisan, more honest, and equally or better experienced in critical governmental policy issues, than Trump or Biden-Harris.
As an alternative, I would look for a certifiable non-partisan American hero, particularly a retired high ranking officer of the armed forces such as Dwight Eisenhower or (somewhat more debatably) Theodore Roosevelt or Ulysses Grant.
As a matter of "full disclosure," I have a particular respect for the majority of those who have risen to the highest ranks in the Armed Forces, based largely on my relatively brief but honorable service as an Army armor officer.
Three of their key qualifications for the Presidency are (1) a sincere, credible commitment to respect their oath of office to uphold the United States Constitution, (2) their recognition that the PRIMARY responsibility of the United States government is the national defense, and (3) their experience in administering a giant bureaucracy (that is, a branch of the Armed Forces) competently.
How'd Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, or his quite possible "designated survivor" meet these criteria?
First off, let me state that I think the Joe Biden meets all the criteria that you have stated. But let me also state that I am also very concerned about his age, but I am even more concerned about Trump back in the White House which would mean the constitution going away 100%. I was just telling my son the other day that I feel like I have spent my entire lifetime holding my nose going to the polls voting for president. I wish that we had a different VP but we don’t. Just like I didn’t like eating my peas at dinner, sometimes I just had to. We are at a very terrible time and place in America’s history; my choice is clear, whether I like it or not.
Points well made. I’m a centrist--but the biggest Achilles heal we are going to hear more of about in the coming months is the existence of Kamala Harris
She is hated. HATED. It’s irrational and it’s wrong but it’s there. This country isn’t ready for an AA lady from Oakland who is the proverbial heartbeat away from running this place.
We are playing right into Mango Man’s hands with this ticket/conundrum
“It seems telling. A liar, fraud, money launderer, indicted, hanger on-er is expelled from Congress, while a liar, fraud, money launderer, indicted, hanger on-er is leading the GOP race for President. This conundrum is not a conundrum at all. In fact, it’s a feature of today’s GOP.”
Agreed! George Santos is the Walter Mitty of politics; on crack! No seriously, I definitely think he’s on crack.
How ironic, when you hear republicans talk about Santos being a liar, while they continually carry water for not only the biggest liar in politics; the Orange Mussolini, but also the greatest crook to ever hold office. Santos has nothing on Trump and his endless minions of demonic grifters. He’s the quintessential fabulist, who never was.
These imbeciles have no shame. Santos may be a corrupt, despicable human being, but when it comes to lying thieves; he’s in good company…:)
Thank you, Adam. I am actually surprised (but pleased!) that the vote was to expel. Mike Johnson coming out stating he would vote no for expulsion had me thinking it would be another failed attempt. However, the majority of the GOP did not vote to expel, which is a sad state of affairs for this country. Trump being Trump being fully embraced by the cult and the GOP congress is quite frightening. I am very concerned that Trump will be back in the Oval Office and democracy may not survive it.
That is my biggest concern with Trump. I just see too many parallels with 1930s Germany. I've heard several people, including Adam, say to look forward to 2028 for a clean slate and younger candidates. I fear 2028 will be too late.
Yes, we all deserve better. However unless and until the GOP decides to stand for democracy and not a dictatorship we are in serious danger. Thank goodness Santos is gone but he was only a symptom of the pandemic of spinelessness. Please keep up your efforts to make changes.
I'm going to reiterate a comment I've made before and add one. It's really important to turn all the "scared" energy I'm seeing and feeling into positive energy. The question you need to ask yourself is, "What can I do to work for a positive outcome in 2024. What can we do as a team to insure a positive outcome?" Every single little positive thing counts! Energy flows where attention goes, so stop focusing on the T man, who is a fallible human being despite his cult lovers, and, as Adam suggested, keep asking your Rep, Senators, why Santos is being expelled and Trump is being admired by Republican Congress people. Keep holding the mirror to their faces and their feet to the fire!!!
Wish the Republicans had the backbone to expel Trump. They had the backbone to defy their “leader” and get rid of Santos. Sunlight is the best disinfectant except when Trump is involved. Trump’s crimes are in plain sight as well.
Worried about the 2024 election. The republicans in the family say they won't vote for trump, nor biden because they don't want a democrat in the whitehouse. America DOES deserve better.
Americans do deserve better. Whether that person is a Democrat or Republican, we deserve someone who is there to find middle ground, to compromise, to put the good of our nation at the highest priority and lead all of us regardless of political affiliation because that is what he or she signed on for and nothing less.
I would find it interesting to know how they feel about the other Republican presidential candidates. If they won't vote for Trump, what are their thoughts on the other candidates (except Christie) being so deferential to him?
Even if they can't bring themselves to vote for a Democrat, if the Republican nominee is Trump they should write in someone else. Having Trump do worse than the down ballot candidates would be another (hopefully meaningful) signal that he should be gone.
Or what trump’s vp pick? They both could prance around like peacocks pretending to do the people’s work when they’re only concerned about lining their pockets.
You nailed it. Santos didn't have the backing of the cult, so he was toast.
That said, it should be noted that if the numbers I saw were correct, a majority of his party voted to let him stay because, apparently, power is more important than anything else (as if we didn't realize that from the fact that they are almost universally supporting the Mango Menace).
I'm really curious how long it may take for fellow Republicans to start to abandoning Trump - 1st conviction, 3rd, 33rd count? Have you ever seen rats run when the water starts to rise?
Thanks, Adam. I met you at last night's talk in Houston. When you said you thought Santos would be expelled, I frankly did not believe it. I'm so glad that embarrassment is out of office, but extremely disillusioned that the GOP "leadership" didn't have the courage to vote him out.
That any elected Republican voted to keep George Santos in the House of Representatives tells us everything that we need to know about how Trump might win a second term.
Also, I’ll just add that these same GOP members took an oath to defend the Constitution. Not the party. Apparently, that memo was missed.

Too bad that Donald Trump can't be barred for running for president by being Donald Trump.

Nailed it!! Those voting not to expel Santos now comprise a “cult” of “cowardice”...
Truth!

If he’s re-elected, he’ll never, ever leave.
That is my biggest concern with Trump. I just see too many parallels with 1930s Germany. I've heard several people, including Adam, say to look forward to 2028 for a clean slate and younger candidates. I fear 2028 will be too late.
Sadly, I think you are correct.
Yes, we all deserve better. However unless and until the GOP decides to stand for democracy and not a dictatorship we are in serious danger. Thank goodness Santos is gone but he was only a symptom of the pandemic of spinelessness. Please keep up your efforts to make changes.
We all need to keep sounding the alarm.
I think Santos will move his money making efforts over from embezzlement to extortion of other congress members.
I think his crimes are pale in comparison to those still sitting. that were in on the plot of insurrection. That is what infuriates me.
I'm going to reiterate a comment I've made before and add one. It's really important to turn all the "scared" energy I'm seeing and feeling into positive energy. Bye, Felicia.

Love your comment!
Unfortunately Republican senators failed the country during dt impeachment trial.
Who do the republicans in your family say they would vote for? Just seems there’s no good choice (other than Liz and/or Adam).
Yes, and Kasich? I like him
No one has said.
I would find it interesting to know how they feel about the other Republican presidential candidates. If they won't vote for Trump, what are their thoughts on the other candidates (except Christie) being so deferential to him?

Some of my relatives feel the same way as well.
I can see Santo's as Trump's Press Secretary if that buffoon gets back in the White House. Like Trump, there's no bottom to his depravity.
Or what trump’s vp pick? They both could prance around like peacocks pretending to do the people’s work when they’re only concerned about lining their pockets.
Yep and their willfully ignorant supporters will cheer them on.
You nailed it. Santos didn't have the backing of the cult, so he was toast.

Trump's time is coming, hopefully sooner than he thinks! Congress needs a really big house cleaning!
I'm looking for the biggest broom I can find, but it won't be anywhere near big enough. :)
I'm really curious how long it may take for fellow Republicans to start to abandoning Trump - 1st conviction, 3rd, 33rd count? Have you ever seen rats run when the water starts to rise?
You’ll need a bulldozer to get it all out. A broom wouldn’t cut it.
Now that you mention it, an Abrams tank with plow attached might do it. :)
That made me chuckle.
