So far the Justice system and courts have been absurdly forgiving of Trump's words and actions. He should already be heavily fined and in jail for disobeying multiple gag orders, the most recent being comments disparaging key witnesses on the Hush Money criminal trial. I guess those enforcement actions are just for you and me, not the Big Criminals.

The entire justice system in the US needs a fine review to return to equal justice for all.

Expand full comment

It never really was equal justice for all.

But it just didn't seem so blatantly tilted. To me anyway. I have never had to deal with the system in my 64 years on this planet.

Truly a 2-tiered justice system. One for diaper donny and another for the rest of us.

Why are judges continuing to enable him? This weakens our justice system.

He should be locked up pending trial. If any one of us did a small fraction of what he's accused of, we wouldn't be free to foment violence.

I agree. I see the justice system working to a certain degree and then there are all of these exceptions that come up for Trump. Why? I am done with the excuse that he is a former president. That should not matter. I am waiting to see that he is not above the law.

Me too it's traumatic to see this MF just get away with it

We will see if everything comes to he who waits because my patience is wearing thin; but I do believe that what goes around comes around and he’s got a rock on his back way bigger than the one Sisyphus had to keep rolling up hill. When is that sucker going to pull him backwards and continually roll over him, or maybe I’m the sucker, which means there is no justice or accountability!

Closure comes when he can’t borrow his way out of financial ruin. Don Poorleone’s Teflon is scratched and some things are sticking.

Trump has always been a white collar criminal. The biggest mistake he made was running for president, exposing himself national and thinking he could get away with his criminal activity. Democrats didn’t want him and republicans fell for him because they didn’t care about who he really was, they cared about winning, no matter the lies he spewed. I feel for the regular folks that are in his cult. Like most cults, they will suffer the most when the truth is revealed. The violence that may come from supporting him, could kill many of his hard core followers, which is exactly what happens when a cult leader is brought down.

Exactly. I’ve often wondered if the orange man-baby has regretted becoming president because it has exposed his grift and his ignorance for all to see. Before 2016, only a relatively few knew this, but the global stage has shown everyone, including world leaders, his true colors (orange being one of them).

"...Finally, the wheels of justice have caught up with Donald Trump. Whatever the outcome, there's a semblance of closure in that realization."

May the wheels of justice grind exceedingly fine in this case. If he implodes here, he'll lose most of his other cases due to collateral damage. Couldn't be happening to a more deserving [multiple expletive deleted]...

I fear that if trump skates once more, the public's confidence in the legal system will be greatly deteriorated. Mine already is based upon an incident with my son and friends being robbed at gunpoint be a 5-time felon (within 10 years) who then plea bargained out of this prosecution.

Campaign funds are closely monitored. These women were paid out of campaign funds. To silence them in the last days of the 2016 campaign.

In spite of all the Russian propaganda, and maneuvers by the Trump campaign to cover his very messy tracks, Trump still lost the popular vote. The Republicans still had to cheat to put Trump in the White House.

Sad that the Party of Lincoln is so unpopular that they have to cheat to put candidates in office. This time, if they don't cheat and allow only affluent white men to vote, they will likely be obliterated.

Maybe then they will wake up and start working for the American people and Democracy once again.

PRECISELY! This isn’t a trial about paying women hush money. It’s about using CAMPAIGN money to do it, and then falsifying business records (sound familiar?) to cover it up.

Don’t let trump’s lawyers and fox news confuse you. This isn’t about the payoff. It’s about where the money came from!

I just hope his lawyers are as capable as Alina Habba was in his other fraud case.

Donny Boy may be the greatest scofflaw ever to face justice. He has spent his life lying about his activities and getting others to repeat his lies. He has gotten the media to call it "the hush money case." You are correct; it is not about hush money. He has gotten people to look at where the money went. The illegal part is where the money came from! Donny Boy is like a magician; he uses misdirection to make crimes disappear.

I am thrilled to see that he will face trial in at least one courtroom setting. Having said that however, I surely hope he will receive the same sort of sentence that any other citizen would face if he is found guilty. Otherwise, the proof is in the pudding that there remain two standards of Justice, his age notwithstanding.

Actual prison time for trump is complicated by the requirements of Secret Service protection for former presidents. However, I read somewhere that incarceration could be possible with isolation on a military base. Base security could replace the Secret Service and his federal pension could go toward his upkeep. It would be possible to hold him incommunicado, a necessity to prevent him from creating another uprising.

Expand full comment

Danielle this makes so much sense. There is always a work around with things like this. The secret service is nit needed if he is in lock up and isolated.

Donald Trump is nit just yhe Former President he is a Clear and Present Danger and he is on trial for election interference for the Presidential race.

He belongs in jail with NO media coverage at all.

Stick him on fantasy island with a loop of Tattoo yelling De Plane! De Plane! Anything! Just as long as it comes with a jail cell!

I think that a "Silence of the Lambs" type setting would be appropriate. Locked up in a 10 x 10 cage with the same apparatus over his mouth as Anthony Hopkins had in the movie - not because he's a cannibal, but rather to silence his BS and lies!

The election of a President requires appealing to a small group of "independents" in a handful of swing states. So a successful candidate must avoid alienating any of these "swing" voters.

Donald has been actively alienating voters who:

Have a regard for ethical and law abiding behavior.

Have a regard for good, honest character.

Are female.

Are males who have a cherished woman in their life.

Understand the meaning of the oath to protect and defend the Constitution.

Remember being cheated by in a job or business deal.

An NBC News analysis indicated that the hard core MAGAs represent about 10% of the population. This is the same cohort that believes that the NFL conspired with Taylor Swift to rig the Super Bowl game in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs to benefit Joe Biden. This is also the cohort that admires law breakers who get away with their crimes. This is the cohort that gets its news from Fox, Newsmax, OANN, Alex Jones, Jim Bakker and Russia Today TV.

So, the only way Donald can win the WH is to cheat. Will SCOTUS roll over for him? It would mean their self-destruction. And the destruction of this 250 year experiment in self-government.

If Trump is convicted of any of these crimes, he should serve prison time regardless of his age. This is a very ruthless man and it’s about time justice was served!

Visualize him in a "Silence of the Lambs" setting. You will feel better immediately even if the prison setting won't be like that.

Crossing my fingers. I don't think this will be easy and there will be antics and appeals, if necessary and he will not be in jail for a long time, IF ever. The logistics of protecting his sorry butt would seem to keep him in some other kind of facility or maybe even at home.

I'm looking forward to Donnie's lawyers going after Michael Cohen. Michael has already been through it all and went to jail and admitted he lied and I don't think he's afraid of them one bit. I WILL miss Alena Habba. LOL Now, if Jack Smith can just find the right time and circumstance to go to the 11th District and get "Judge" Cannon off that case.

The Republican Party has become grotesque. The Democratic Party is ineffectual and can’t get out of its own way. It is time to offer real alternatives through ranked choice voting, which C1 advocates for. Another reason to support this fine organization

Expand full comment

I don’t understand how the Democrats are ineffective. They have always been the People Party. Somehow the republicans were able to steal that slogan using social issues like patriotism, God and guns to convince people that Dems don’t care, calling them anti-Christian socialists, while at the same time giving out corporate tax breaks and screwing the regular folks in this country with scare tactics and racism.

An important aspect of this, for me at least, is that Trump's actions show that he knew it was wrong (legally and morally) and he knew that those of Faith would be turned away from him. Trump has no ethics, no morals, and no respect for the law.
