Sunset of Life Being Destroyed
The heroes of the past are being milked dry by the grifters of the present
We all know someone who worries about their parents or friends. They're concerned that Fox News or Newsmax is blaring whenever they're around, complete with dinner table conspiracies and even concerns like the local high school “having a litter box since there’s a kid identifying as a cat.” (This is one I’ve heard a few times).
I watched a Trump rally (so you don’t have to) and was repeatedly struck by one thing: The number of seniors, who should be enjoying the sunset years of their lives, consumed with rage and anger.
Think about it. From a historical perspective, we live in an era of relative peace. Economic indicators aren't perfect, nor is inflation, but compared to the 15% inflation of past decades, it’s not too bad. Debt and deficit are huge problems, approaching 34 trillion dollars, but as of yet, have not had a demonstrable impact on the standard of living. What we do see is that happiness has fallen, and division has risen.
When we think of elder abuse, we envision a caregiver or a random caller convincing a vulnerable person to give up their hard-earned money or social security check. How is this any different than a news channel addicting someone for eyeballs on advertisements, or a campaign like Trump’s convincing them to give up their cash to stop “the deep state” or “save America” for their children?
This infuriates me. It has rotted the brains of many and torn families apart. If this were a foreign actor (and there is some foreign influence in this), we would be close to a declaration of war. Instead, it’s our own countrymen, destroying the very system defended and preserved by the generation they are now dead set on destroying. All for a quick hit of cash.
Relief Factor, Balance of Nature, My Pillow, all products advertising on Fox, and the myriad of anger-focused podcasts gain customers while the show gains advertisers and the spokesman gains cash in his pocket. Eventually, the rage of the day wears off and the dopamine runs dry, so a new and more sinister plot is revealed, and the dopamine surges and the cash exits the wallet of those on a fixed income, struggling to get by.
My prayer is that this eventually ends. One of the best ways to end it is to be aware of it, call it out, and don’t let the daily rage consume us, but instead be outraged at the abuse of our loved ones. In a society of self-governance, we all should be somewhat aware of the issues and concerns…but we need to recognize that governance is all about one thing: living together as very different people as best as we can.
Elder abuse, and economic abuse of everyone, must end. And stopping Donald is a major step in that.
Adam, it is my prayer also. I know of many otherwise sensible people (not all seniors such as myself) who are drug along by the constant MAGA drama. I was in the 5th grade in 1960. I did not care what the schoolyard bully said about me or who he was going to beat up next. I knew even then that the bully act was just that. An act to cover up the hurt inside of him.
I had enough interest in politics to watch the Nixon and JFK debates. Nixon looked dirty and desperate, sadly. Like the 1950s did in general. When JFK won, the whole world burst into living color. For a short time, there was joy and enthusiasm in most peoples.
Trump has empowered all the other fascists in the world and the defective here. He holds us all hostage in a world like the 50s.
I repeat that I hope to live to see the color come back into the world. I hope to see freedom's children live lives of happiness and security.
Well I can say with all seriousness that a year or so before Mike Lindell teamed up w/ the Dumpster I was looking for a new pillow and I actually succumbed and bought the "my pillow" and it was just awful. So you also have a lot of seniors who are also suffering from a lack of sleep using that thing to toss their support Mike's way. No sleep makes me angry too! Seriously, that pillow is elder abuse and just plain abuse. Have a good one. Stay safe.
