That would be the only time I would thank Mike Pence for anything.

Suggest thanking Mike Pence for everything - imagine the carnage had he followed Trump's wishes.

And yet it took Pence 3 1/2 years to denounce the guy for what he is, and he only did it after announcing his run for President, and he still pledged to vote for the guy if he were the nominee. Not exactly a profile in courage!

Pence did his job, the one he took an oath to protect. You don’t get awards for not committing treason. Just saying….:)

Mike Pence enabled Trump through the entire term in office. Being as close to the nonsense as Pence was, he made a choice not to speak out. That choice was party driven or loyalty driven. The party is gone. The loyalty was unearned and therefore undeserved.

He watches kids get separated from their parents and does nothing about it. He calls himself a good Christian. Hell’s too good for this hypocrite.

Expand full comment

Actually, after Pence saw one of the holding areas (with chain-link fence, children crying for their mothers, the thin blankets that look like aluminum foil), he looked grim. When he went home, he told Trump and aides that separating children from parents had to stop; it’s inhumane. Almost immediately, Trump stated publicly that he was stopping the separations because it’s inhumane. There wasn’t much of an outcry about Trump’s separating children from parents. When we saw that strategy by Putin, whose soldiers kidnapped thousands of children from their homes in Ukraine, we were outraged. In both cases, the strategy was meant as a disincentive for parents to argue with authority. It didn’t work in either case. These are atrocities. Trump and Putin and their perpetrators are deplorable. To almost half of our citizens, I say, “You’re being mesmerized by Satan! Snap out of it!”

I didn’t know this chain of events. Thank you for filling in the blanks. Yet the architect of the family separation, Stephen Miller, still advises T💩p.

Stephen Miller is nothing more than a well-known fascist who is still deep inside Donald’s orbit. That should be a warning for everyone. But just like Steve Bannon, the other bigly fascist in Donald’s orbit, they still have bully pulpits to spew their ugly racist venom with no one to cut off their hateful rants. Shame..

I cannot in good conscience, thank him for the ONE act of moral courage and ignore the four years of watching him stare adoringly at that orange Buffoon and enable him to single-handedly destroy the Republican Party. So much so, that they’ve abandoned all loyalty to the American Constitution and have committed to worshipping a person instead. Because they want to stay in power and RULE, not govern. We can debate the grossness of turning ‘Christianity’ into nothing what Jesus preached and I’d be willing to to do so. But we can stick to this one subject at first.

It was smart for him to refuse to leave the building. He probably knew he'd never get back if he left and that they'd have Grassley (who was president pro tempore of the Senate at the time) preside in Pence's absence, giving Trump the result he wanted. Pence saw through it. He had every right to look as angry as he did when they reconvened that night.

Supporting Trumpty Dumpty and still calling yourself an Evangelical Christian is an absolute JOKE. You people are worshipping the anti Christ in Donald Trump. And his pandering to “my beautiful Christians” is ridiculous, disgraceful and insulting to actual Christians. That idiot is no more a Christian than my dog is. Frankly, I don’t understand how ANYONE who supports Trump can claim to be a Christian. You’re just in a cult of hypocrisy. How do you live with yourselves??

We’re in a full agreement. He checked with prominent judges to see if there was possible validity. Knowing that if he did, he would have earned a place in American history as being a fool. republicans seem to have this pompous idea that democrats wouldn’t have fought on the streets if he had. I indeed would have been 1 former republican of millions of democrats. That didn’t happen because of Pence. I do feel gratitude for his good judgment in midst of an angry crowd of ignorant fox fed followers of an incompetent fool. Yeah, indeed. Thanks Pence.

Smith and Co have gone over and over this filing. The actions described were un-Presidential and those of a private citizen and candidate for office. After seeing the VP debate I saw With my own eyes how dangerous JD vance truly is. He is a charming sociopath.

I don’t see the charming at all. What some people seem to seeing in Vance as charming or style, is a VERY thin veneer. If you look closely, you see the cold, blank eyes, the smirking at inappropriate times and the way he said certain female names (in particular Margaret, after she dared to fact check him). It was creepy it was clear that it was taking effort to try and act like a human. He’s dangerous and it is foolish for anyone to take away from this one debate that he is charming. He is at best awkward, like when he can’t quite make small talk, figure out how to order donuts or shaking a woman’s fist instead of completing the fist bump she was going for. At worst he is a highly dangerous compulsive liar. But what he NEVER is, is charming!

Just finished listening to Liz Cheney’s introductory speech at Kamala’s rally in Wisconsin a minute ago. It’s people like Liz and you, Adam that are carrying the tatters of the Republican Party. It took Pence’s son and Dan Quayle, at least, to help him realize what he would be doing if he didn’t do his job. The man had to ask for guidance because he had lost the ability to think about his oath to our country! So he finally did one of the two things a Vice President is authorized to do. The threat was gone. It was late. The human and physical damage to the Capital was incalculable but it was a near thing that he did. All that and he STILL says he won’t vote for either candidate but will throw his voice away on a write-in.

I guess you could still say I’m still sitting on the fence when it comes to thanking him with any enthusiasm.

I am no fan of Mike Pence. But if someone even weaker or more power hungry had been in that position, it is terrifying to think of the danger and turmoil it would have placed the country in at the beginning of the Biden administration. Enter JD Vance stage far right. He has already said he would not stand up like Mike Pence did, and you can take that to the bank. America better mobilize and snuff out this threat at the ballot box. It will literally be our last opportunity.

I do think that Pence courageously defied tfg on Jan 6 in counting the votes. But I cannot give him a pass on how silent he was regarding tfg after they left office. He had the nation’s attention in those days immediately after he had to run for his life (as did everyone in the Capitol building that day) and wasted the opportunity to speak out about what he knew (and knows) about the orange man-baby. He kept silent because he knew he would run for the Republican nominee and wanted to protect his maga base if he was going to have any chance of being successful. Shameful.

a quote from Mike Pence after stating that he would not support Trump in 2024: "I believe anyone that puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States and anyone who asks someone else to put them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States again"

He didn’t say this until much later I believe after he suspended his campaign. Imagine the impact those words would have made if he said that shortly after January 6th? He kept silent far too long.

Expand full comment

"He didn’t say this until much later" Incorrect. He made statements when launching his campaign (so obviously wasn't concerned about the maga base) From June 7, 2023 BBC headline: "Former US vice-president Mike Pence has offered his most forceful repudiation of Donald Trump to date during a speech launching his 2024 campaign. The Republican accused Mr Trump of being unfaithful to the US constitution and of abandoning conservative values."

Of all the things he’s said in connection with January 6, or anything else for that matter, “You’re too honest” is the quote we should hang around Trump’s neck forever more. His disdain for honesty defines his character, his approach to business, politics, truth, law, and decency.

The spirits of our founding fathers are watching! Whether or not we agree with Democrats on policy is secondary to the preservation of our mutually enjoyed blessing of democracy!

Only after we say "Hell NO" to those who would dictate to us how we live our lives can we return to discussing policy differences!
