I posted on another Substack that I thought his family needed to intervene and pull him off the ticket because he is clearly not well. If you are at all familiar with dementia, you know what I am talking about. Couple that with his racism, his apparent hatred of women and his inability to lose, you have a real problem on your hands. It’s astonishing to me that this damaged of an individual is actually running for president of the United States.

Wow...that's a lot to ask of a family that hasn't really seemed too motivated by doing what's right for the country if they don't get something out of it.

I think he’s quite happy letting JD go out and hang himself out to dry that way he has far less exposure to ridicule that he rightly knows is happening; at least as far as he’s capable of comprehending these days. Not sure there’s a lot of that going on, frankly.

Sad, but true for the country & him.

Unfortunately this is true.

I’d much rather see him go down in flames on November 5. I want to see him lose every single state much like poor Jimmy Carter, ( I think he only won GA). I want to see him publicly humiliated along with every other maga down ballot candidate with a complete blue sweep. And last, Id like to see him in an orange jumpsuit although I’m thinking he will get public service, so yay! Let’s watch him pick up trash on the Cross Bronx Expressway! Mean spirited? Yup.

Just this minute I asked if you would cover this topic in your chat tomorrow. I’m hoping there are some sane Republicans who are mobilizing to support the Harris/Walz ticket to combat this increasing Trump lunacy.

Not to steal any thunder. But GWB would be a terrific, well timed, endorsement. Decency over depravity.

I agree and his silence has bothered me. However keep in mind, W led us to a war based on an argument that turned out not to be true and he when he entered the White House, he inherited a surplus and when he left he left with a large debt and the economy hanging by a thread. Given how vengeful Trump and MAGA are they would retaliate by hammering him and his legacy. Could this be the reason he has said next to nothing?

This gives me hope.

I would like to see people like GWB, Liz Cheney, and Condi Rice come out and condemn Trump saying he's not fit to be elected to serve and also ideally say they'll instead vote for Harris. We've lost some of the 'otherwise normie' GOPers like Govs. Sununu & Kemp and former Sen. Burr of NC (who voted to impeach Trump for J6 but says will still vote for him - go figure that one out), which is too bad.

Donald J Trump is a useful idiot for the far right. They don’t care if his brain is completely gone…if he is elected, a cadre of fascists is ready to run the country via the holy writ of Project 2025. Focusing on Trump alone is short-sighted. He is the tip of a huge and terrible iceberg.

Expand full comment

Yep. All the far right has ever needed is an idiot who could hold a signing pen. It began with Reagan, was more successful with Bush Lite and the felon was their crowning achievement to date. Let’s never let it happen again.

Is there any way to address how FoxNews covers Trump? FoxNews viewers just don't see the gaffes, they don't see the insane Truth Social posts and they are just swimming in stories of how bad Harris and Walz are. It's really sickening to go there and see what the articles say and, even worse, what the readers' think.

Honestly...even if we get rid of Trump...FoxNews is still producing mind numbing propaganda at breakneck speed. Somehow we have to figure out how we can still honor the First Amendment but control the poisonous effect of this propaganda.

Someone needs to track down all the Fox den's comments during the insurrection and get them out into the public again and again. Also publicize McConnell's, McCarthy's, Graham's, and others' statements that occurred within days of Congress being threatened and running for their lives. When you're afraid for your life, you're less likely to lie about a traitor's attempt to hang Mike Pence.

I've always felt that Steve Miller is the imp in trumps ear. It's as though when Trump sometimes issues a coherent statement that it's being composed by Miller. He's always in the background lurking but has been interviewed lately and borders on the hysterical. The center is now gone and only trumps enablers can put a stop to this. Of course this won't happen. The Trump virus has taken control. There's no going back.

Whoa, please do not sully Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller by calling cadaverous, evil trump lackey Stephen Miller "Steve." And lurk is such an apropos word for what Miller, Stephen, does. I think Jeff Tiedrich calls him Nosferatu VonGoebbels or something like that

This is very serious. it is not a slowing down of energy, as with Biden. it is that Trump repeatedly shows how much he is disconnected from reality. This is often the beginning of a descent into madness.

I've come to suspect that many of those, who support Trump know this about him, (ie. Barr, Bannon, etc.) but they continue to support him because they need him, as he creates an opening for them to implement their goal of ending our Democratic Republic and replacing it with a fascist state. I also suspect that many of the theocrats in the Republican party (Mike Johnson and most evangelicals) also know he's in serious mental decline, but they too need him to create a theocratic fascist government. To put it more bluntly, As with Putin's relationship with Trump, Trump is their useful idiot.

Bingo! You nailed it. The MAGA Illuminati couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Dumpie because he’s not really in charge of anything, they are. He’s a convenient prop that will probably be discarded for the easily manipulated ‘Show Me Your Menstrual Cycle’ Vance. Then there’ll be another acolyte behind him. This is not just about the Presidency, it’s about every single race that is being run, from National to state and local. It’s infuriating to watch the Democratic focus on the Presidency every four years and ignore where laws get made: local and state levels. Open up the damn primaries to Independents so we can get some normal candidates running that need to appeal to ALL Americans, not just a party. Enough.

He has to have the adulation to survive. He has to be on top, the focus of attention. Perhaps the battles with STDs that he claims he fought have finally rotted him from the inside out. He is dissolving right in front of our eyes.

It is impossible to have any sympathy for him. History will rank him with his heroes: Hitler, Putin, Kim.

As usual, concise and clear truth is spoken by Adam Kinzinger. I heard parts of the that conversation last night (via Politico, I've deactivated my X account) - and I thought I heard him lisp. I didn't relisten to the clips, so thanks for clearing that up. His slurring was totally obvious. And more than ever, he goes off on incomprehensible tangents. This man is NOT fit for ANY office. And thanks to you moderate Republicans for your efforts to keep him out of office.

Another spot on commentary. If his ever more obvious lunacy is what needs to happen to take him down, fine. It is still unfathomable to me that tens of millions of people can be so indoctrinated. Let’s get the country back and make some big and long over due changes.

If Democrats haven’t learned from the holes in our horribly corruptible system, these efforts will be for naught.

He also deployed his usual doom-and-gloom rhetoric, claiming the country is “very, very sick” and that “we’re very close to a world war.”

Trump usually speaks in absolutes. Things he doesn't like are the worst ever and the things he wants credit for are the best ever.

Biden has the worst economy ever.

I had the best economy ever.

It was a perfect phone call.

The world doesn't work in absolutes.

But that's how the simple-minded think. No shades of grey: the world is black and white, and their side is right, and the other side is a black hole of evil.

It looks like at least one quarter of the world does work that way. By using that broadcasting tactic Donny rounded up and captivated all the people who think like that. There are so many black and white thinkers. Nazis are rigid black and white thinkers, as are racists.

Anyone else thinking he might leave MAGA/GOP cult high and dry soon? This is playing out much like another leader facing imminent failure back in April of 1945. Get ready for his erosion in the polls to be blamed on his "inept" staff, and finally his "unworthy" base. His devolving is accelerating rapidly right now and approaching an implosion.

The attacks against Harris, Walz, and Biden are well beyond what any sane person would ever think of doing. He is actually executing a Nero Decree on his own campaign, which could be on purpose to open an escape route. His heading for Venezuela mention recently could be very foretelling of his plans to bail out if knows he can't win...

Should this happen, the GOP will be destroyed beyond any chance of repair....

The next few weeks will be very interesting...
