The Paradox of MAGA
Trump is either a liar and fraud, or the weakest man ever to occupy the white house (or both)
I have repeatedly affirmed that the 2020 Presidential Election was legitimate, with President Joe Biden emerging as the rightful winner. And all evidence has reaffirmed that the 2020 Presidential election was free, fair and the most secure in our nation’s history. Donald Trump lost by a significant margin of 7 million votes. His Attorney General, Bill Barr, acknowledged that there was no widespread fraud that could have altered the outcome, numerous Trump Campaign officials and White House Officials confirmed and informed Trump that he lost the election. In essence, Trump not only lost fairly, but he lost badly. Losing by 7 million votes in a modern-day Presidential Election is a shellacking. Not since Jimmy Carter, has an incumbent president lost a reelection in such a decisive fashion.
Most of Trump's supporters admire him for what they perceive as strength and competence. However, based on my personal interactions with him and his public conduct over the past eight years, I can assert that he is neither strong nor competent. Yet, for argument's sake, let's assume he is- and as painful as it may be- let’s put ourselves in an alternate reality and assume the election was stolen from Donald Trump (Writing that sentence just made my stomach turn). This assumption leads to what I term: The Paradox of MAGA.
This paradox should cause MAGA supporters to reconsider their backing of Donald Trump. They believe that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 election and that it was unfairly taken from him through massive fraud on a historical proportion. Herein lies the contradiction. In November 2020, Trump was the incumbent President, arguably the most powerful person in the world, with considerable control over all the levers of the United States Government. Which begs the question: How then could someone of such stature who possesses such strength and such competence have an election stolen from them? Hard to fathom, right!
If Trump were truly strong and competent, such a scenario would be impossible. Therefore, if the 2020 election was indeed stolen from him, it only underscores his weakness and incompetence, arguably making him the weakest, most incompetent and the least effective President in the history of the United States. The paradox for MAGA supporters is clear: believing in Trump's strength and competence is incompatible with the notion that the election was stolen from him. A strong and competent leader with vast control of the levers of government could not and would not have an election stolen from them.
Truly strong and competent leaders would prevent an election being stolen from them whether it be for that of the school board or that of the Presidency. As such, MAGA supporters should ideally seek a leader who is strong, who is competent and who is not so weak and so dumb to prevent an election being stolen from them. They should seek someone with true strength and competency, qualities that Trump lacks through his actions of having an election stolen from him.
Now, back to reality, the election was not stolen. Again, the 2020 United States Presidential Election was free, it was fair, and it was secure. Another reality, Donald Trump is weak and a not a smart individual. When he lost the Iowa Caucuses in 2016, he said it was because Ted Cruz and his campaign cheated. When he lost the 2016 Ohio primary it was because the incumbent Governor cheated. When he lost the popular vote in 2016 it was because millions and millions of dead people voted in California. When he lost the 2020 election it was because of whatever conspiracy theory was driving his insanity of the moment. I’m detecting a pattern here. And if he loses in 2024 – you can be sure he will yet again say it was because of fraud and his long tired and shameless story will sadly be believed by many.
You are a gentleman, so I will say it for you. To quote Bill Maher, “Trump is a whiny little bitch!” With apologies to all the bitches (canine variety).
Once again, clear and rational analysis. I agree with you, but think that he should be removed from the ballot and the Constitution upheld. Trump and his political supporters pose a clear threat to democracy, and they aided him in Jan 6th. Including Jackson and Jordan being removed under the 14th.
There is still time for you to answer the call and step up as the best candidate. I know from your history that you can work with any rational, honest person. Take Jamie Raskin as your partner, and I would not be surprised if Biden steps back and supports you at that point. I do.
