The Republicans have no clue how to handle the Harris/Walz ticket. They are dumbfounded or really plain dumb. They seize on any gossip and then make up lies they repeat. It’s pathetic and disrespectful to all who serve. As Walz has now said at every rally DJT only serves himself. Given what we have heard from Republicans, there really is only one choice—Harris/Walz. Military service is a choice in this country and we need to honor and respect all who serve. Thank you again Adam for your service.

Adam, for some reason I am no longer getting your articles or videos sent to my email!! I tried contacting Substack directly but it's pretty much impossible and the chat is useless! I have not gotten an article or any emails notices from those who respond to my comments on any of the articles since July 5th. The only way to see when you post a new article or video is I have to keep logging into substack. I am a paid subscriber! I want to get email notififications of when you post something to Substack and notified of anyone who comments on my comments like before. I don't know why they stopped a month ago. My email is watsonmail@aol.com. Please fix this- thank you.

Supported by a misinformation media pretending the lies of fox spew is news. That’s what irks me. The cult machine sells these lies with no accountability. And they don’t have a guts to have somebody like Adam come on the show and tell the truth. Of coarse not. You are correct 100% in what you shared

Yes. They are for sure assholes. I also think the Harris/Walz ticket scares the shit out of them. Trump’s “show” today was a result of him realizing his outrageous lies & BS aren’t playing so well against a new Democratic candidate. Today showed someone desperate for attention. I saw & heard the ramblings of an insane man.

I am a retired servicemember with 23 years on Active Duty - United States Army. I deployed in the initial invasion to Iraq and two other deployments to Afghanistan, not to mention several other "non-combat" deployments.

The nuances you are playing with are deceiving and not completely correct. While on the periphery, you are technically correct, there are real issues with some of Walz' statements throughout his political career. His statements to citizens and in congress show that there is a level of implicative deception for personal gain and recognition to assist with his political advancement. I will avoid using derogatory comments to explain because I respect any service that a citizen gives to the military, but some may find "disgusting" as a useful pejorative, which you have also used.

1. "Governor Walz quickly exited the military after learning he was going to deploy, thereby leaving his men out to dry."

-- You are right, some exited when it seemed that combat deployment was imminent, like Walz, and for many reasons - family, age, ability, inconvenience, fear. However, stop-loss was a thing, and units coming close to receiving deployment orders also received stop-loss orders. I believe anyone who submitted retirement packets was denied if the submission was within 60 days before a unit received deployment orders - which was usually about a year in advance from the actual deployment. However, units usually knew in advance that deployment was looming before orders were given, and it is likely that Walz' ties and political networking to the MN state government at the time kept him informed so that he could stealthily split that upright between staying in for as long as possible, deploying to Italy, and avoiding a deployment to an actual combat zone. Nobody denies his right to retire after 20 years of honorable service. However, many would question his leadership decision, while serving in the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) role, to retire before his unit deployed to Iraq.

2. "Gov. Walz left his men without leadership."

-- The wording "leaving his men out to dry" is a bit over-the-top because an argument could be made that the unit was better off without him if he really didn't want to be there and it should be known that many honorable people - both serving as CSM, and those who earned the rank Sergeant Major (SGM) and title Command Sergeant Major, stayed with their unit to deploy alongside their Soldiers even though they could have retired. Walz avoided that opportunity to serve in a combat zone and it is right to set the record straight; he could have deployed, but he just didn't want to continue to serve with his unit in a combat zone.

It was a choice he made and he has to live with that decision and the judgement he will receive from the media and fellow servicemembers. I don't agree with his decision, which may just be a difference in my values versus his, but each person should be given the facts to make their own value judgements.

3. "Gov. Walz never made Chief Master Sgt."

The key nuance here is rank and title; CSM is a lateral movement title, normally given to SGMs as part of a Battalion or higher Command Team. This is similar to the title of First Sergeant (1SG) who holds the rank of Master Sergeant - the rank that Walz held - which is the 8th rank up (E8), while serving in a leadership role at the Company level. There is no real equivalent of this lateral promotion on the officer side of the house.

In order to be even considered for promotion to SGM (E9), you must attend the SGM Academy, and after you complete it, you compete against other E8s for selection to be promoted to E9. IF selected and you continue to serve until your promotion number comes up, you can then wear the SGM rank (E9) for the remainder of your military career. However, a consideration many NCOs take is that the academy requires additional service obligations and then when you actually pin on the E9 rank - after completing the academy and waiting for your number to come up - you incur even more service obligations - so, EARNING the SGM rank for retirement can take up to 5 years of additional service, within which, you may be given the opportunity to serve as a CSM, which is a SGM in a leadership role. Walz was essentially frocked to E9 - allowed to use the rank and title, but never earned the rank.

From my understanding, Walz didn't even begin to earn the SGM rank with the SGM Academy - this is the coursework to which the media refers. He just served in the capacity, likely because they didn't have another NCO that was senior to him at the time. So, for him to use that rank in the way that he uses it, by introducing and portraying himself as a "Retired Command Sergeant Major" is incorrect and deceiving. He could have easily said he is a retired Master Sergeant (MSG) who served as a CSM before retiring, and with that explanation he would avoid controversy while still being able to use his final role as a Battalion CSM. However, he wouldn't receive as much recognition...and supposedly, in his mind, admiration for the rank to use for political purposes.

I hope I've explained why this can be a controversial topic and that there are some significant issues to consider here when looking at the characterization of Gov. Walz' service record. People should know the facts and make a decision about what they are willing to ignore. Ignoring the fact that he never earned the rank of E9 is not something we (retired servicemembers) should allow.

BTW...As an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, you should know that the abbreviation for an Army Lieutenant Colonel is "LTC" and an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel is "Lt Col". Also, Chief Master Sergeant is an Air Force term, not Army.

Adam and Darrell, I am a former Police Officer and you can imagine that I was in a position to work with a large swath of conservatives (I am an Independent) but now my head is spinning. These people are not the Republicans I knew...Republicans believed that being weak, and entitled is unacceptable. This new Republican party is foreign to me and not the conservatives that I respected.

the Republican party is no longer anything but a collection of power hungry acolytes to a failed Presidential candidate who can't accept his loss. I too am an independent and feel we need a second party that works for the people. Country over party. it's sad to see the former Repubs who have turned their backs on honesty, integrity and are supporting trump. McConnell, Barr, Haley, Sununu, etc. all said trump was unfit and then they did a 180 and endorsed him.

What is so disappointing is that the FCC once had the authority to require news outlets to make public retractions of false or incorrect statements. Somewhere along the way it was decided to remove that authority from the FCC. Probably about the same time that it was decided to leave Social Media totally unregulated.

Yeah, even corporate news media are reporting that to be the case. But you also see the same bs they have been doing for money making clicks and taps. Playing it to keep it as close as possible. You know, allowing frumpy and dip shit to repeatedly spew misinformation unchallenged by a media, (aka news) that is supposed to squash lies. I mean seriously, if these clowns started spewing these kind of daily lies 10-15 years ago, the interview would be ended with a reporter/commentator saying they can't allow this kind of lie to be affiliated with "news". That said, the evidence shows Walz was not a deployment dodger.

On the other hand, Trump is a draft dodger and has a history of endorsing actual stolen valor.

Well done; it's beautifully written. As a military wife of 20+ years and a long line of family members who served, I know that a service member would never, ever disrespect someone's military service. The Armed Services has a code of ethics that teaches you to respect others, and it's a well-known fact that the service teaches you first to respect yourself so you will know how to treat others respectfully. But a few always choose to go rogue because they think they know better. They are called fools and never make the military a career. They don't have the right stuff.

I’m really grateful you take the time to explain in such detail how the military works. I could tell the nasty comments were inaccurate, based on readily-available fact checking (along with consider-the-source common sense!), and I still find it useful to have a more fulsome description. You’re correct that only a small percentage of Americans serve in the military, and one of the consequences is that the inner mechanics are not widely known, which can make a lot of disinformation more likely to go unchallenged.
