I'm all for thinking before we act, especially when it comes to letting the momentum of war getting out of control and the nuclear threat. But, once we decide to act, we need to finally show our resolve and stick to it. We should do just enough to put Russia back in it's place and thinking about their domestic issues rather than taking their neighbor's lives and property. I see in this situation, Israel's position of wanting to finally end Hamas. Appeasement never works. History has shown this. In Ukraine, in addition to enabling response within Russia, the West should show resolve by perhaps mustering Polish and French troops so that Russia can see the resolve. They need to get out of Ukraine. No bargain for territory. After succeeding, add Ukraine to NATO and take away the indirect attack issue and make future consideration of attack by Russia, one which will call upon all NATO resources without hesitation. We need to make clear the red lines and hard stops to Russia and China.
Dictators only understand equal or greater force! Putin has, so far, gotten pretty much what he wants on his terms. Adam’s article really lays out the West’s incrementalism. Its not working and we look weak. That is what I wrote Biden last week. In my book its more than past time to put Putin on his back foot!🦶 Adam also wrote an op ed piece for CNN a few days ago along these lines. Its a good article; I recommend reading it.
Well stated and thought through comment. The Polish and French are indeed willing and truly seem to know the consequences of not winning this removal of a barbarian invasion. Your remark regarding taking their lives and property… resources…. Dead on correct Tim
