Thank you for your honesty, Adam. I have suspected something like this in my reading today, and admit to being quite alarmed for all parties at risk. Our “House” is not in order; Senator Tuberville has increased our risk with his completely ridiculous antics. Were it not for Chuck Schumer we would not have replaced Mark Millie as the Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Our military is at risk; it is no secret. Our governance is at risk; likewise no secret. Our classified documents regarding our nuclear submarines have been shared widely thanks to the traitor Trump. My God, could we be in a worse position? I don’t think so. The group “Feathers” has been preparing a list of candidates for the Speakers position since late 2022. They have a list of four representatives they judge to be best suited to the job. They are easily located elsewhere on Substack. I suggest we all call the number provided to endorse the appointment of one of these candidates immediately so action can be taken ASAP. Bless you for being so forthright!

Thank you. Its not hard to be forthright, just weirdly rare nowadays in the political field

As I read your words, I think of all of the years that it has taken to reach this point. The awful greed and lust for power and control has overwhelmed good sense and true love of country. I’m currently reading Heather Cox Richardson’s book, Democracy Awakening, which puts politics into perspective as history. It is so important to learn and understand history so that we do not make the same mistakes repeatedly.

So true. Politics is a means to an outcome. But it has become a religion to many

Yes it has. The orange calf needs to be gone. And his minions with him. We have had some very good presidents during my lifetime. I wonder what Dwight Eisenhower would think of the clown car antics.

In a previous comment, I linked my support for U.S. support for Israel (within its UN sanctioned borders) and Ukraine to the common principle of self-determination by the majority of people now living in a particular area.

But another principle that I have supported throughout my adult life -- including relatively brief service as an Army officer and then as a professional civil/environmental engineer -- is that the United States and other nations with the economic power to do so should ACT to address credible threats to their future political independence, physical security, and economic security. And to be a "credible threat," a particular disastrous outcome need not be 100% certain and practically never is.

On this basis, I supported the U.S. opposition to the Communist overthrow of Vietnam; the U.S. overthrow of the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq; and the containment of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

And (gasp) I also recognize global climate change, as well as depletion of economically accessible fossil fuels, as a "credible threat" that calls for a gradual transition to renewable and nuclear sources of electrical energy. That should be based on a combination of government programs and market-based incentives that are much too sophisticated to explain in any online discussion such as this (not to mention one on "X" a.k.a. "Twitter.")

You speak with too much sense. Dont you know youll NEVER get retweets being a serious person!

In all seriousness, thank you for your perspective. I think Americans are desperate for that actually whether they know it or not

I fear that you ask too much of your former colleagues, Mr. Kinzinger. Courage and integrity do not appear to be their strong suits.

I am holding out hope that there can be some coming together, for our allies. Ukraine and Israel need our help and we are the UNITED States of America. Why oh why can’t be pull it together and become United. What is going on with the current state of affairs is both appalling and disgraceful. Thank you, Adam.

If ever there were a time for Americans to toss aside any support for aspiring autocrats and to go forward as a democracy to support our allies, this is the time.

Be informed. There is no equivalency or symmetry between Israel and Hamas. Iran's power is behind HAmas. Obama and Biden were wrong after all to try to deal with Iran.

Thanks for your perspective on Israel and Ukraine. Let's hope we can get a new house speaker who can provide some leadership on these issues.

Regarding Senator Tuberville, why is no one seeking a compromise that would end some government support for travel to get an abortion?

My heart still bleeds for the chemical attack in Syria. Ukraine breaks my heart. And now the women and children are being torchered and killed in Iran. None of us are really safe. Our lives as we know it can change in an instant. When will enough be enough. The cowards of the Republican Party need to be stopped. I fear that if the Former Idiototus is reelected the World will suffer. Trumpism has been the worst thing that has happened to our country. I am not angry. I am sad and afraid for what my Grandchildren will see and face 20 years from now. I have to hope that the greater good will prevail. It has to.

Also a reminder, as we now see military buildup in Serbia along Kosovo border today, isn't Russia also fueling that fire?

Ok ... so Israel is linked to Ukraine and we are a heavy influence on both wars, but ... are we really doing the right thing?!? Anyone else listen to what Jimmy Dore has to say? This is kind of weird. Why would the US do this so conspicuously then not own it?!? Am I missing something?

This link provides a rare opportunity for people to actually see a YouTube video of a pro-Putin troll excusing everything that Russia is doing to undermine Ukrainian self-determination (and, by extension, that of all democratic nations in Europe) by claiming that the U.S. was responsible for the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline carrying Russian natural gas to Germany.

Maybe so, maybe not, but whoever took out the pipeline is not the key issue.

The fundamental problem was the decision of the Germans to totally abandon their own nuclear power facilities in favor of natural gas from Russia.

That was stupid for two reasons.

First, what should be obvious is the dependence on an adversary for a critical economic resource.

Second, is the opposition in Germany and other parts of the European Union to hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") for production of natural gas in their own countries, as an interim source of energy until the capacity of renewables, nuclear, and conservation measures can be built on a massive scale.

But Adam and Country 1st has always said truth is important. Another Country 1st value is to recognize and evaluate toxic tribalism in all its forms. If we are going to initiate a war, that is likely to go global, then should we not be truthful about our actions? Our obligation is to defend our Republic. We no longer have the ability to defend Republics across the world, and we’ve seen again, and again that some nations function better under other forms of government. Why are we picking fights just because we don’t like the autocratic nature of other nations governments. If we mess with them, are they not going to mess with us? Should we not recognize that our place on the world stage is changing and do our best to focus on keeping our Republic healthy? What would we do if we felt that Russia was threatening our border? What have we done in the past? How is their reaction any different?

Expand full comment

I question your comment about "if we are going to initiate a war." Just what war have we "initiated" -- at least in the past 125 years or so? The invasion of Iraq? That was a delayed response to Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.

That initial comment of yours is followed by assertions that are too numerous to address with facts and logic. But they amount to claims (objectively classified as "isolationism") that the ONLY way to secure the political and economic advantages that we enjoy in the United States, is to essentially ignore the massive abuses to human rights that continue to be perpetrated throughout the world.

To name a few, these include the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the numerous threats to international order by the Chinese Communist Party (and their even-worst allies in North Korea), and governments in Central and South America are so inept and/or corrupt as to be inducing millions of their best (and, sometimes, worst) citizens to flee to the United States.

These international issues all pose immediate and future threats to the quality of life of us American citizens.

So, what is your idea for seriously and comprehensively addressing these credible threats?

Expand full comment

Did you watch the video? Biden said he would destroy the pipeline and it was destroyed shortly after he said it. Then he denies doing it and our major networks ignore it.... why? Jimmy Dore also explained the long history to the war that started long before Russian invaded its neighbor. Sounds like we feared them working with Germany so we sabotaged them. It worked, but the war is the cost. Not ok.

Not every country is culturally ready for democracy. Afghanistan is a classic example. A supportive culture is needed for it to succeed.

We are not the leader of the free world anymore. We are the aggressor here and we are lying about it and we are barely holding our own Republic together.
